"In this study, Jessica C. E. Gienow-Hecht challenges long-standing analyses of the United States' "cultural imperialism" that emphasize the policy makers' determination to export U.S. culture in order to spread capitalism and gain access to overseas markets and raw materials. She also contests the claims by scholars of reception theory that foreign audiences deliberately condition the reception of U.S. culture abroad. Studying the example of the U.S. Army newspaper the Neue Zeitung - published for the German population from 1945 to 1955 - she convincingly demonstrates that U.S. officials actually exerted very little direct influence on their cultural and information programs in postwar Germany, leaving the initiative to binational midlevel agents. Transmission Impossible reveals that the selection of agents who transmit political and cultural values to the foreign world is as crucial to the success of the enterprise as the package of values itself."--BOOK JACKET. "Containing a wealth of fresh information on the use of propaganda in the Cold War, the administrative structure of the U.S. occupation, Soviet-American conflicts, and Jewish biography, this book will be of interest to scholars of U.S. foreign relations, German history, occupation history, ethnicity, sociology, and culture."--BOOK JACKET.

Carrying On The Tradition A Social And Intellectual History Of Hadith Transmission Across A Thousand Years written by Garrett Davidson and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-20 with History categories.

In Carrying on the Tradition Garrett Davidson employs a variety of largely unutilized print, as well as archival sources collected from the Near East, North Africa, India, Europe, and North America. He analyses these sources to excavate the fundamental reinvention of the conceptions and practices of hadith transmission that resulted from the establishment of the hadith canon. Further, the book examines how hadith scholars reimagined the transmission of hadith, not as a scholarly tool, as it had originally been, but instead as, among other things, an act of pious emulation of the forefathers. It demonstrates the emergence of new genres and subgenres of hadith literature, as a result of this shift, examining them as artefacts of the cultural, social, and intellectual history of Muslim religiosity from the tenth to twentieth centuries.

Guidelines On The Elimination Of Residual Foci Of Malaria Transmission written by World Health Organization. Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean and has been published by World Health Organization this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Medical categories.

Elimination of the residual foci of malaria transmission is a dynamic process, taking place mainly during the late stage of the attack and consolidation phases of malaria elimination. This approach is suitable for countries or areas that are targeting interruption of malaria transmission in their territories. Countries can plan for a selective elimination of P. falciparum foci in the first stage, to be expanded to P. vivax at a later stage when more resources and a stronger program are available. During the past 15 years several national malaria programs in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region adopted elimination strategies. It is the vision of the Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean to expand malaria-free areas at sub-regional level and to support new initiatives wherever feasible. These guidelines on the elimination of malaria transmission foci provide information on identification of foci of malaria transmission, epidemiological classification, selection and application of appropriate measures and monitoring and evaluation of implemented interventions. The publication is targeted at policy and decision makers, malaria program managers at national and sub-national levels, and field staff. It can also be used in training courses on planning and management of malaria elimination

The telecommunications network is a global system of equipment and means that ensures the connections between the users of communication services, with the transmission and reception of the information involved. It is a set of communication nodes, in which processing procedures take place for the transmission and reception of information signals, switching connections and choosing routes between nodes to make connections between sources and destinations of communications, and a set of links between these nodes, made in a variety of technologies. This volume contains 5 chapters in which the different processes and types of systems within the telecommunications network are presented.

Energy-efficient Tbit/s optical interconnects are key elements for future communication systems. Three novel optical frequency comb sources are investigated, which have the potential of being integrated in chip-scale Tbit/s transmitters. Such frequency combs provide a large number of carriers. The equidistance of the comb lines helps to minimize spectral guard bands. For each type of comb source, coherent data transmission experiments show the potential for Tbit/s data transmission rates.

The Routledge Companion To Vsevolod Meyerhold written by Jonathan Pitches and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-09 with Performing Arts categories.

The Routledge Companion to Vsevolod Meyerhold brings together a wealth of scholarship on one of the foremost innovators in European theatre. It presents a detailed picture of the Russian director’s work from when it first emerged on the modern stage to its multifarious present-day manifestations. By combining an historical focus with the latest contemporary research from an international range of perspectives and authors, this collection marks an important moment in Meyerhold studies as well as offering a new assessment of his relation to today's theatre-making. Its dynamic blend of research is presented in five sections: Histories enlarges on more conventional subjects like the grotesque and Biomechanics, to overlooked topics such as Meyerhold's ‘failed’ projects and his work in film; Collaborations and Connections extends understandings of Meyerhold’s well-known collaborative capacities to consider new cultural influences and lesser known working relationships; Sources engages with hitherto untapped material in Meyerhold’s oeuvre by reproducing and contextualising previously untranslated primary sources on his work; Practitioner Voices offer lively, on the ground, testimony of the contemporary impact of Meyerhold's practice; Meyerhold in New Contexts maps the routes of his practice across continents and examines ways in which his work is being applied in a number of contemporary scenarios, such as motion capture, computer-based 3D visualisations, and the ‘new normal’ of digital pedagogy. This is a key resource for students and scholars of European Theatre, acting theory, and actor training, as well as for those more broadly interested in the socio-political impact of theatre.
