En Colombia ha sido muy extensa –y en algunos aspectos, contradictoria– la legislación sobre seguridad social. Esta obra, dirigida a estudiantes y profesionales del derecho, contadores, administradores y ciudadanos en general, contiene un análisis crítico del desarrollo del Sistema de Seguridad Social colombiano y las nuevas instituciones que se han creado a partir de 1993, año de expedición de la Ley 100. Los primeros capítulos tratan de la evolución histórica de la seguridad social, sus principios fundamentales, la teoría de los riesgos sociales y las normas constitucionales vigentes en esta área del derecho. Además, el autor analiza en detalle temas como el traslado entre regímenes, los y el programa Colombia Mayor, la pensión familiar, y en el capítulo de salud revisa en detalle la Ley Estatutaria de la Salud y el 780 de 2016. Así mismo, para contribuir al análisis del desarrollo jurisprudencial que las Altas Cortes le han dado a las instituciones que integran el Sistema de Seguridad Social en Colombia, se incluyen los principales apartes de las providencias proferidas en este campo por la Corte Constitucional, la Corte Suprema de Justicia y el Consejo de Estado.

Before it became the center of Latin American drug trafficking, the Colombian city of Medellín was famous as a success story of industrialization, a place where protectionist tariffs had created a “capitalist paradise.” By the 1960s, the city’s textile industrialists were presenting themselves as the architects of a social stability that rested on Catholic piety and strict sexual norms. Dulcinea in the Factory explores the boundaries of this paternalistic order by investigating workers’ strategies of conformity and resistance and by tracing the disciplinary practices of managers during the period from the turn of the century to a massive reorganization of the mills in the late 1950s. Ann Farnsworth-Alvear’s analyses of archived personnel records, internal factory correspondence, printed regulations, and company magazines are combined with illuminating interviews with retired workers to allow a detailed reconstruction of the world behind the mill gate. In a place where the distinction between virgins and nonvirgins organized the labor market for women, the distance between chaste and unchaste behavior underlay a moral code that shaped working women’s self-perceptions. Farnsworth-Alvear challenges the reader to understand gender not as an opposition between female and male but rather as a normative field, marked by “proper” and “improper” ways of being female or male. Disputing the idea that the shift in the mills’ workforce over several decades from mainly women to almost exclusively men was based solely on economic factors, the author shows how gender and class, as social practices, converged to shape industrial development itself. Innovative in its creative employment of subtle and complex material, Dulcinea in the Factory addresses long-standing debates within labor history about proletarianization and work culture. This book’s focus on Colombia will make it valuable to Latin Americanists, but it will also appeal to a wide readership beyond Latin American and labor studies, including historians and sociologists, as well as students of women’s studies, social movements, and anthropology.

La obra Reminiscencias de 497 páginas, impresa en Editorial Presencia Ltda. de Bogotá en 1994, se refiere a Ipiales, ciudad y comarca, donde nací el 13 de abril de 1928. Desde mi niñez aprendí muchas cosas y pasé mi adolescencia entre la citada urbe y la hacienda de Tusandala, adquirida por mi tatarabuelo Rumaldo Argoti, de nacionalidad italiano y fui cultor del campo, de los árboles, de las flores, de las aves y los animales. Concluidos mis estudios primarios, al iniciar bachillerato fui director de la biblioteca Murillo Toro de la famosa Sociedad El Carácter, a los 14 años y posteriormente me desempeñé como Profesor de Correspondencia mercantil y nociones de contabilidad en el Instituto Remington; profesor del colegio Sucre, Secretario de la Comisión Mixta Colombo Ecuatoriana demarcadora de límites. Registrador municipal del Estado Civil. Mi matrimonio y mis hijos. Contador del Banco Comercial Antioqueño, concesionario de El Tiempo, de Intermedio y corresponsal. Al iniciar mi carrera de derecho fui designado por el Comando liberal universitario de Nariño, Delegado de las juventudes liberales del departamento a la Convención nacional liberal en Bogotá como me correspondió posteriormente asistir a otras convenciones. Miembro y presidente del directorio liberal municipal de Pasto, miembro del directorio liberal departamental, siendo jefe único del partido el doctor Carlos Lleras Restrepo. Fui exaltado en listas oficiales al segundo renglón a la Cámara de Representantes y más tarde acepté la suplencia al senado del doctor Alberto Montezuma Hurtado. Representante de la Facultad de Derecho al Consejo Superior de la Universidad de Nariño. Elegido por unanimidad Personero de Pasto y decliné la Secretaría de Gobierno, siendo Alcalde el doctor Luis Eduardo Martínez Segura. Doctor en Derecho y Ciencias Sociales Cum Laudae otorgado por dicha universidad de Nariño. Contralor general del departamento durante dos periodos consecutivos. Conceptos emitidos por la prensa sobre mi gestión cumplida con eficiencia y ejemplar diafanidad.
