One stormy evening, in the year 1994, at a place called the Mine Hill, in the White Knob Range on the Big Lost, a twelve-year old named Tony and his dog Scooter, found themselves on the wrong side of an abandoned mine entrance. It is there, they discovered the journal of Ole' Pauley, a legendary miner of the early 1900's whose life ended tragically during a mine collapse. Ole' Pauley hadn't just been an expert miner but a brilliant astronomer, a Biblical scholar, a knowledgeable historian and naturalist. His knowledge, experiences, wisdom, sense of adventure and love of the Big Lost River Valley prompted him to create a treasure hunt for all times. He hoped whoever found and read the prose would be inspired to seek and find the great treasures of the Big Lost just as he'd done. On December 24,1917, Ole' Pauley put his treasure hunt to pen under the title, "Treasure Quest in the Big Lost'. The treasure quest prose and art depict the beauty and mystery of the Big Lost River Valley and the White Knob Mountain Range. The essence of the pioneers, ranchers and miners past who settled the area is captured and portrayed, Biblical verse quoted inspires and intrigues. Treasure Quest in the Big Lost is old-fashioned fun and adventure even adults will enjoy reading. It is the hope of the author Dawn Rachel Bates McKnight and the illustrator, renowned artist Ruth Sauerbreit the book will inspire children and grown-ups alike to seek their own adventures rich in history, natural sciences and astronomy.
