Balkrishna Pandey’s Sai Baba’s 261 Leelas is a handy compendium or, as he calls it, an aide-mémoire of 261 miracles of Shirdi Sai Baba, intended for the devotees. Culled from a number of sources, he has obtained stories from the often hard to find books like Narasimha Swami’s biography of Sri Sai Baba, and decades-old copies of the Sai Leela journal. The author does not try and interpret the miracles but lets the reader realise the universal message for himself. In today’s busy world, this work offers a shortcut for daily devotion, offering the reader a quick manual to peruse, ponder or meditate upon Sai Baba’s micraculous leelas while waiting for a bus or to fill any spare moment --- Dr Marianne Warren ,Author of Unravelling the Enigma: Shirdi Sai Baba in the Light of Sufism This book puts together the authentic and pithy miracles of Sai. All that was verifiable within the first twenty years of the 20th century, directly related to the Saint’s life has been arranged under scintillating titles, all 261 of them. The readers cannot but be deeply moved by the sentiments of devotion projected by Balkrishna Panday in his writing titled Sai Baba’s 261 Leelas.

Baba-Abdalla has worked his whole life to increase the fortune he was born with, and now owns eighty camels. On one of his business trips, he comes across a poor dervish, who reveals the location of a fortune in buried treasure. The dervish is willing to share it with Baba-Abdalla in exchange for forty camels – a fair price, surely? But as the proverb says, "the more one has, the more one wants". See the true cost of greed in "The Story of the Blind Baba-Abdalla", the thirtieth of the 34 tales in the classic "Arabian Nights" collection, translated by Andrew Lang. A treasure-trove of timeless stories, the One Thousand and One Nights or Arabian Nights have been loved, imitated, and added to over many centuries. Similar to the fairy tales collected by the Brothers Grimm, the Arabian Nights are drawn from the folklore of India, Iran and the Middle East, and were collected in Arabic versions throughout the medieval period; others were added as recently as the eighteenth century. These stories of the exotic East have been popularised for new generations by film adaptations such as Disney’s Aladdin, starring Robin Williams and Gilbert Gottfried in 1992, and Will Smith in 2019, and Dreamworks’ Sinbad, starring Brad Pitt and Michelle Pfeiffer. They continue to inspire writers as varied as Salman Rushdie and Neil Gaiman, while numerous Bollywood and manga versions attest to their popularity around the world. These stories of magic, adventure and romance have shaped readers’ imaginations for generations, and are sure to be retold for years to come. This selection was translated by Andrew Lang from the French versions by Antoine Galland, who was the first to include the stories of Aladdin and Ali Baba. Born in Scotland in 1844, Lang was a scholar of ancient Greek, a journalist, historian, novelist and poet, and the author of 25 popular collections of fairy tales; his edition of the Arabian Nights’ Entertainment was published in 1898. He became a Fellow of the British Academy in 1906, and died in 1912.

ISSN: 2397-9607 Issue 350 In this 350th issue of the Baba Indaba’s Children's Stories series, Baba Indaba narrates the Greek Fairy Tale " PRINCESS CRYSTAL, or The Hidden Treasure”. ONCE upon a time, long, long ago and far, far away, there were the four Kings: the King of the North, the region of perpetual snow; the King of the South, where the sun shines all the year round; the King of the East, from whence the cold winds blow; and the King of the West, where the gentle zephyrs breathe upon the flowers, and coax them to open their petals while the rest of the world is still sleeping. And there was the great Dragon, who lived on top of a high mountain in the centre of the universe. He could see everything that happened everywhere by means of his magic spectacles, which enabled him to look all ways at once, and to see through solid substances; but he could only see, not hear, for he was as deaf as a post. Now the King of the North had a beautiful daughter called Crystal. Her eyes were bright like the stars; her hair was black like the sky at night; and her skin was as white as the snow which covered the ground outside the palace where she lived, which was built entirely of crystals clear as the clearest glass. And the King of the South had a son who had been named Sunshine on account of his brightness and warmth of heart. The King of the East had a son who, because he was always up early and was very industrious, had been given the name of Sunrise. The King of the West also had a son, perhaps the handsomest of the three, and always magnificently dressed; but as it took him all day to make his toilette, so that he was never seen before evening, he received the name of Sunset. All three Princes were in love with the Princess Crystal, each hoping to win her for his bride. When they had the chance they would go and peep at her as she wandered up and down in her glass palace. But she liked Prince Sunshine best, because he stayed longer than the others, and was always such excellent company. Prince Sunrise was too busy to be able to spare her more than half an hour or so; and Prince Sunset never came until she was getting too tired and sleepy to care to see him. It was of no use, however, for her to hope that Sunshine would be her husband just because she happened to prefer him to the others. Her father—the stern, blusterous old King, with a beard made of icicles so long that it reached to his waist and kept his heart cold—declared that he had no patience for such nonsense as likes and dislikes; and one day he announced, far and wide, in a voice that was heard by the other three Kings, and which made the earth shake so that the great green Dragon immediately looked through his spectacles to see what was happening: "He who would win my daughter must first bring me the casket containing the Hidden Treasure, which is concealed no man knows where!" What happened next you ask…? Well many things happened, some silly and some serious. To find the answers to these questions, and others you may have, you will have to download and read this story to find out! And so began the quest for the hand of the princess . But who won? More importantly, just how did he win? What tactics were used? Was the princess happy with the result of the competition? To find the se answers, and any more you may have, you will have to download and read this story for yourself?
