Dabei handelt es sich um zwei linguistische Grammatiken (Duden und Helbig/Buscha) und eine didaktische Grammatik (Die Gelbe aktuell). Die Analyse der Grammatiken erfolgt teilweise mithilfe des Kriterienkatalogs von M. Hennig. Die trennbaren/untrennbaren Verben werden zunächst linguistisch eingeordnet. Dann wird es auf die möglichen Probleme bei der Didaktisierung und auf die potenziellen Schwierigkeiten bei den Deutschlernenden eingegangen. In den letzten Kapiteln werden die Grammatiken verglichen, z.B. in Bezug auf die verwendeten Termini, angeführten Beispiele oder ob der Fokus der jeweiligen Grammatik auf den Regeln oder Ausnahmen liegt sowie die formalen Sachen, wie z.B. Übersichtlichkeit usw.

Es gibt zwar eine vielfalt von Kriterien, die zu dieser Differenzierung dienen (Betonung, Syntax, Vorkommenhäufigkeit und Semantik), aber was uns besonders interessiert, ist das semantische Kriterium. Dabei haben wir nur Verben mit Präfix „durch“ ausgewählt. An diesem Thema sind wir besonders interessiert, denn solche Verben gehören zum schwierigeren Verzeichnis der deutschen Grammatik und können deshalb sowohl den Deutschlernern, als auch Lehrern selbst Schwierigkeiten bereiten. Das oben genannte Präfix ist bei einigen Verben „nur trennbar und bei einigen „nur untrennbar“. Es gibt jedoch auch Verben, deren Präfix sowohl „trennbar“ als auch „untrennbar“ sind. Sie werden in den Grammatiken als „doppelförmige“ oder „biparadigmatische“ Verben bezeichnet und bereiten die größten Schwierigkeiten, weil sie scheinbar gleich sind, verhalten sich jedoch unterschiedlich und weisen meistens eine andere Bedeutung auf.
