L'antologia que hem elaborat és conscientment parcial, limitada. No hi són tots els autors que s'hi podrien incorporar, ni els textos antologats pretenen ser els més representatius dels autors tractats; la nostra mirada literària s'ha encarat cap al riu. Els criteris de selecció que ens han guiat en la tria han estat, en primer terme, de caire temàtic. Hem intentat que els escrits presentessin un calidoscopi de sensibilitats i centres d'interès. Hem intentat, també, poder marcar un cert itinerari per l'Ebre català, des de l'embassament de Riba-roja fins al Delta. Ens hem limitat als escriptors del segle XX i hem combinat autors del cànon ebrenc o referents de la literatura catalana com Josep Pla o Joan Perucho amb altres autors que ens ha interessat d'incorporar per la perspectiva que ens ofereixen, geogràfica, temàtica o de gènere.
