The Lord showed George Harris and Susan Gregory that nothing is impossible with God. In this memoir, Susan Gregory shares the details of her family's journey serving the Lord through missionary work. In 1956, Harris-an aeronautical and mechanical engineer-left a successful government job to become a missionary. With his wife, Susan, and their three children in tow, they embarked on a seventeen-day boat journey to their first destination in Mato Grosso, Brazil, with the South American Indian Mission. During their years abroad, Harris and Susan added two children to their family while experiencing Indian fights, an appendicitis attack, epidemics, chronic disease, serious accidents, and AIDS. Harris earned a reputation as a "fixer" and used these skills as a missionary not only in Brazil, but in the Bahamas; Mexico; Miami, Florida; and El Paso, Texas. Communicated through a series of letters written during their service, Trickle-Down Memory narrates one family's commitment to serving others. It shows a vivid legacy of lives lived for God and underscores the notion that missionaries are called, while their children are drafted.

Sometimes life takes its time bringing something of value into plain sight. It took me twenty-nine years to bring this book to a place where I can present it to you with both pride and satisfaction. I am hoping the story Ive shared is one you will find as valuable in your life as it was in mine. The only problem is that my story took its time in me so I could make the necessary changes needed in order for me to find a balance of meaning and peace. This book is a mystery in the way it presents my life to you. Ive been able to use a sense of seriousness mixed with a bizarre sense of comedy. Nothing in this book is what you might expect. About the time you begin to feel sorrowful, I hit you with a note that tells you there is no sorrow in me about what happened, only a sense of victory that Ive been able to make sense of a life that is still unknown to my conscious mind. Ive taken a shovel and dug deeply into my past then explained how I handled myself, both as a child and as the woman I have become. Ive worked to expose the workings of how hard the mind works in order to survive in the healthiest way possible. Ive used every tool at my disposal to retrain my thoughts, behavior, and language in order to break apart habits I developed in order to remain alive. My book is generally the type written by psychiatrists, psychologists, or counselors about patients. In this book, I became my own therapist, being led only by the insight given to me in a yet mysterious and unknown way.

Efficiency is a crucial concern across computing systems, from the edge to the cloud. Paradoxically, even as the latencies of bottleneck components such as storage and networks have dropped by up to four orders of magnitude, software path lengths have progressively increased due to overhead from the very frameworks that have revolutionized the pace of information technology. Such overhead can be severe enough to overshadow the benefits from switching to new technologies like persistent memory and low latency interconnects. Resource Proportional Software Design for Emerging Systems introduces resource proportional design (RPD) as a principled approach to software component and system development that counters the overhead of deeply layered code without removing flexibility or ease of development. RPD makes resource consumption proportional to situational utility by adapting to diverse emerging needs and technology systems evolution. Highlights: Analysis of run-time bloat in deep software stacks, an under-explored source of power-performance wastage in IT systems Qualitative and quantitative treatment of key dimensions of resource proportionality Code features: Unify and broaden supported but optional features without losing efficiency Technology and systems evolution: Design software to adapt with changing trade-offs as technology evolves Data processing: Design systems to predict which subsets of data processed by an (analytics or ML) application are likely to be useful System wide trade-offs: Address interacting local and global considerations throughout software stacks and hardware including cross-layer co-design involving code, data and systems dimensions, and non-functional requirements such as security and fault tolerance Written from a systems perspective to explore RPD principles, best practices, models and tools in the context of emerging technologies and applications This book is primarily geared towards practitioners with some advanced topics for researchers. The principles shared in the book are expected to be useful for programmers, engineers and researchers interested in ensuring software and systems are optimized for existing and next generation technologies. The authors are from both industry (Bhattacharya and Voigt) and academic (Gopinath) backgrounds.

Relational Realms offers context for the exploration of positive relationship building. It is rooted in the contention that relationships consist of various internal and external ways of knowing and being that constantly and interactively release and retrieve energy which, when acknowledged and worked through, can result in authentic and relationally healthy environments. In our present divided era, educators hold the potential to be societal change agents by engaging in a transformative way of relating to students, families, and other educators; Relational Realms offers such a pathway. Through this book, we offer a map for navigating relationships and analytical tools that provide theoretical and practical contexts for getting to the heart or root of positive relationship building in school environments and beyond. Relational Realms consists of a complex web of internal and external ways of knowing and being that challenge our emotions. Within the text, we lay out the key components of the 8 Relational Realms, and present the relationship among them. They include the following: relational epistemology, relational knowledge, relational knowing, relational cultural knowing, relational dissonance, relational value, relational spiritual knowing, relational competence.

Risk and Hyperconnectivity brings the paradigms of new risk theory, neoliberalization they, and connectivity theory together for the first time to illuminate how the kaleidoscope of risk events in the opening years of the new century has recharged a neoliberal battlespace of media, economy, and security. Probing a series of risk events that have already contoured the twenty-first century, this account shows how both established and emergent media are central in shaping past, present and future horizons of neoliberalism, while also propelling pressure for its alternatives.

This book investigates the importance of gender and resistance to silences and denials concerning human rights abuses and historical injustices in narratives on transnational memories of three violent conflicts in Indonesia. Transnational memories of violent conflicts travel abroad with politicians, postcolonial migrants and refugees. Starting with the Japanese occupation of Indonesia (1942–1945), the war of independence (1945–1949) and the genocide of 1965, the volume analyses narratives in Dutch and Indonesian novels in relation to social and political narratives (1942–2015). By focusing on gender and resistance from both Indonesian and Dutch, transnational and global perspectives, the author provides new perspectives on memories of the conflicts that are relevant to research on transitional justice and memory politics.

This book explores the structure and function of memory and imagination, as well as the relation and interaction between the two states. It is the first book to offer an integrative approach to these two emerging areas of philosophical research. The essays in this volume deal with a variety of forms of imagining and remembering. The contributors come from a range of methodological backgrounds: empirically minded philosophers, analytic philosophers engaging mainly in conceptual analysis, and philosophers informed by the phenomenological tradition. Part 1 consists of novel contributions to ontological issues regarding the nature of memory and imagination and their respective structural features. Part 2 focuses on questions of justification and perspective regarding both states. The chapters in Part 3 discuss issues regarding memory and imagination as skills or abilities. Finally, Part 4 focuses on the relation between memory, imagination, and emotion. Philosophical Perspectives on Memory and Imagination will be of interest to scholars and advanced students working in philosophy of memory, philosophy of imagination, philosophy of mind, and epistemology.

This One Book Can Stop Obama's Tyranny The USA or the USSA? The United States of America or the Union of Socialist States of America? That is the question. Will President Obama transform the greatest engine of freedom the world has ever known into a Stalin-like dictatorship? Or can the American people expose and rid themselves of this regime? Is the most polarizing president in our history transforming us into Caracas or Beijing? Moscow or Tehran? Trillions in new debt. His solution? Print more money, crippling American taxpayers and our children with unlimited debt while corrupt crony supporters continue to loot our economy. His attorney general has shipped weapons to Mexico, turning our southern border into a war zone as gangs of drug thugs and human traffickers endanger the citizenry of America. He's hobbled the most powerful military in the world, reducing the U.S. Navy to the smallest force since 1930 and rendering us unable to maintain our advanced weapons and technological advantages over the enemies at our gates. And what does Obama do as Iran spews genocidal dictates, promising to "kill all Jews" and "annihilate Israel"? He abandons our ally and continues to push a "diplomatic" solution to this threat. Obama is transforming us into a second-class nation, with communists and Islamists given free rein to expand their power. As Obama accrues power with little opposition and his oppression creeps down from the top, the American people must stop the tyranny!
