Awalnya, lahan rawa hanya dipandang sebelah mata. Rawa dianggap tak bermanfaat dan sulit dikembangkan sehingga dibiarkan terlantar menjadi sarang satwa liar seperti buaya, ular, dan lintah. Dahulu, rawa banyak dihindari karena menjadi sarang nyamuk dan hama atau serangga pengganggu tanaman. Padahal, masyarakat ilmiah internasional begitu menghargai rawa. Bagi mereka rawa adalah sebuah karunia di alam semesta. Rawa bagaikan 'supermarket alam' dalam sebuah ekosistem. Dari rawa dihasilkan beraneka ragam produk mulai dari bahan pangan, sayuran, buah-buahan, daging, ikan, sampai obat herbal bahkan pestisida nabati. Juga bahan sandang dan papan dari beragam jenis pohon. Lengkap bukan? Kini, kawasan rawa semakin terbuka karena tuntutan kebutuhan manusia pada jalan, lahan, pangan, dan papan. Sejarah panjang pemanfaatan lahan rawa memuat banyak informasi terpendam berupa kearifan lokal (indegenus knowledge), pengetahuan terapan, invensi, dan inovasi teknologi. Pada awalnya berupa percobaan, tetapi kemudian sukses panen padi dan berbagai tanaman yang dibudidayakan di lahan rawa. Kesuksesan masyarakat ini menginspirasi pemerintah untuk pembukaan lahan rawa lebih luas melalui Proyek D2R (Dredge, Drain, dan Reclamation) tahun 1956-1958, Proyek P4S (Pembukaan Persawahan Pasang Surut) tahun 1969-1984, dan Proyek PLG (Pembukaan Lahan Gambut) Sejuta Hektar di Kalimantan Tengah tahun 1995-1999. Akhir-akhir ini, perhatian pemerintah terhadap daerah rawa lebih khusus, membangun rawa sebagai sentral produksi pangan modern dan maju, yaitu kawasan food estate di Kalimantan Tengah. Presiden Jokowi sudah dua kali berturut-turut melakukan kunjungan kerja ke kawasan food estate lahan rawa di Kalimantan Tengah, yaitu pada tanggal 9 Juli 2020 di Desa Dadahup Blok A5, Kabupaten Kapuas dan 8 Oktober di Desa Belanti Siam, Kabupaten Pulang Pisau, Kalimantan Tengah. Buku Trivia Rawa: Serba-serbi Sumber Daya Lahan Rawa ini disusun untuk memudahkan dan mempercepat pemahaman terhadap lahan rawa melalui beragam istilah khusus yang sering terlupakan, padahal penting dan menjadi kunci dalam pemanfaatan dan pengelolaan lahan rawa. Buku ini terdiri dari 4 bab utama, dan terdapat prolog sebagai pembuka dan epilog sebagai penutup. Masa depan Indonesia pada hakikatnya ada di lahan basah. Pernyataan yang secara historis dibuktikan oleh raja-raja Nusantara yang menempatkan daerah kerajaannya di sepanjang aliran sungai-sungai besar, seperti Sungai Musi, Batanghari, Barito, Kapuas, Kahayan, dan lainnya. Sejak lama lahan basah yang merupakan dataran aluvial sungai dikembangkan menjadi daerah pertanian tanaman pangan dan perkebunan karena didukung oleh kesuburan tanah dan ketersediaan air yang melimpah. Secara historis, perta nian di lahan basah menjadi penghasil komoditas-komoditas penting dan strategis untuk pangan, pakan, papan, dan obat-obatan herbal. Namun, dalam perkembangannya, dukungan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi "pengelolaan dan perlindungan" terhadap ekosistem lahan basah masih terbatas dan ke depan patut menjadi perhatian serius. Lahan basah sebagai pokok penelitian dan pengkajian atau center of excellence memerlukan dukungan semua pihak, termasuk perguruan tinggi. Buku Pengantar Lahan Basah Suboptimal Menuju Pertanian Berkelanjutan merupakan bahan ajar yang dikemas menjadi buku teks (referensi) untuk memberikan gambaran secara komprehensif tentang pengembangan, pemanfaatan dan pengelolaan lahan basah untuk pertanian secara teoretis dengan contoh-contoh dan ilustrasi praktis. Pada Bab Bab IV, dan Bab V dikemukakan tentang karakteristik sumber daya lahan, kendala atau masalah yang dihadapi dalam pengembangannya, juga model pengelolaan lahan dan budi daya pertanian, perikanan, dan peternakan secara komprehensif dan holistik untuk masing-masing tipologi rawa, yaitu lahan pasang surut, lahan lebak, dan lahan gambut. Selain uraian yang sistematis, dilengkapi dengan referensi, juga diperkaya dengan ilustrasi sketsa, skema, foto, atau gambar yang menarik.
