This book analyzes the multimodal verbal and nonverbal behavior of humans in both an artificial game, based on the well-known Mafia and Resistance games, as well as selected other settings. This book develops statistical results linking different types of facial expressions (e.g. smile, pursed lips, raised eyebrows), vocal features (e.g., pitch, loudness) and linguistic features (e.g., dominant language, turn length) with both unary behaviors (e.g. is person X lying?) to binary behaviors (Is person X dominant compared to person Y? Does X trust Y? Does X like Y?). In addition, this book describes machine learning and computer vision-based algorithms that can be used to predict deception, as well as the visual focus of attention of people during discussions that can be linked to many binary behaviors. It is written by a multidisciplinary team of both social scientists and computer scientists. Meetings are at the very heart of human activity. Whether you are involved in a business meeting or in a diplomatic negotiation, such an event has multiple actors, some cooperative and some adversarial. Some actors may be deceptive, others may have complex relationships with others in the group. This book consists of a set of 11 chapters that describe the factors that link human behavior in group settings and attitudes to facial and voice characteristics. Memoirs of Vrbová, who was born as Gerti Sidon in Trnava, Slovakia, in 1927 to a cosmopolitan affluent Jewish family. Describes anti-Jewish measures of the Slovakian authorities in 1939-41. In spring 1942 Vrbová's family, threatened with deportation, fled to Budapest, where they lived under assumed Hungarian identities. In 1943 they were denounced and sent to a detention camp, from which they were released through bribery. In 1944 Vrbová's father was arrested and killed. After the German occupation of Hungary in March 1944, she and her family returned to Slovakia and lived with forged identity papers in Bratislava. There she met a childhood friend, Rudolf Vrba, who had escaped from Auschwitz and told her about the mass murders. In November 1944 she and her mother were arrested by the Gestapo; she managed to flee, but her mother refused to and perished. Vrbová went to Budapest, where she lived under an assumed identity until the Soviet liberation of the city. After the war she married Vrba and they settled in Great Britain.

Tamar Frankel argues that this phenomenon is not new; in fact it has a specific traceable past. During the past thirty years temptations and opportunities to defraud have risen; legal, moral and theoretical barriers to abuse of trust have fallen. She goes on to suggest that fraud and the abuse of trust could have a widespread impact on American economy and prosperity, and argues that the way to counter this disturbing trend is to reverse the culture of business dishonesty. Finally, she presents the following thesis: If Americans have had enough of financial abuse, they can demand of their leaders, of themselves, and of each other more honesty and trust and less cynicism. Americans can reject the actions, attitudes, theories and assumptions that brought us the corporate scandals of the 1990s. Though American society can have "bad apples," and its constituents hold differing opinions about the precise meaning of trust and truth, it can remain honest, as long as it aspires to honesty.
