“After inexplicably being placed in the wrong bassinet at the city hospital where I was born, I grew up with a nagging feeling of somehow not belonging, and a father who always suspected I was not his. I lived another’s life and he mine, our paths amazingly crossing throughout the years, until 57 years later I discovered the truth. This is the story of my life in someone else’s world, my quest for answers, and how I’ve come to terms with the hand which fate has dealt me.” – Fred George, Author This is a story about two boys who, at birth, were inexplicably switched, a switch that would dramatically change the author’s life in every aspect—religion, ethnicity, economics, and culture. Time and time again, the two boys’ paths cross with one another’s before ultimately discovering, decades later, that they aren’t who they spent their whole lives believing they were. At 57, Fred George sees his birth family for the first time, recognizing in them his own mannerisms and traits. George’s retelling of his switch at birth is not so much an account of the switch itself, but rather the story of his life from birth to present with the George family. The story is interesting and insightful, complete with family photos that provide readers with an inside view of the culture and of the times of George’s life.

In 1982, 8,000 miles from home, in a harsh environment and without the newest and most sophisticated equipment, the numerically inferior British Task Force defeated the Argentinian forces occupying the Falkland Islands and recaptured this far-flung outpost of what was once an empire. It was a much-needed triumph for Margaret Thatcher's government and for Britain. Many books have been published on the Falklands War, some offering accounts from participants in it. But this is the first one only to include interviews with the ordinary seamen, marines, soldiers and airmen who achieved that victory, as well as those whose contribution is often overlooked – the merchant seaman who crewed ships taken up from trade, the NAAFI personnel who supplied the all-important treats that kept spirits up, the Hong Kong Chinese laundrymen who were aboard every warship. Published to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the conflict, this is the story of what 'Britain's last colonial war' was really like.

"If you think I'm going to lift the lid on what it is like to be paid to misbehave with celebrities, travel the world and get legless with rock stars; if you hope I'll reveal how gossip columns really operate behind the scenes; if you think I'm going to tell you what Jude Law, Guy Ritchie and Jordan are really like - well, you're right. " When the 3AM column first appeared in the Daily Mirror, it changed the rules. The message behind the column was clear: celebrities were to watch out, because any drunken moves and misdemeanors on their part would be reported and made known to the world the very next day by the all-seeing Jessica and her co-writers Polly and Eva. Gossipy, funny and fabulously indiscreet, Wicked Whispers is Jessica Callan's inside account of what life as a 3AM girl was like: the debauched parties, the drunken celebs, the lecherous paparazzi, and the tabloid tricks. But it wasn’t all fun all the time. Jessica recounts the sometimes harsh and pressured reality of the job, from getting dumped by boyfriends who couldn't handle her crazy lifestyle to finding herself at the heart of a scandal of her own making...

'This captivating account . . . is the story of an ordinary soldier, but an extraordinary man. I commend this book most warmly.' Richard Dannatt, General The Lord Dannatt GCB CBE MC DL, Chief of the General Staff 2006-9 'The amazing account of a young man, Neville 'Timber' Wood, who, despite fighting in many of the major engagements of the Second World War, including Dunkirk, El Alamein and D-Day, survived to become a much-loved husband and father . . . brilliantly written . . . I highly recommend it' Eleanor Tomlinson The son of a Hull butcher, Neville 'Timber' Wood volunteered in 1939, at the age of eighteen, to join the British Army's Tyne-Tees 50th Northumbrian Division. Timber was in many ways an entirely unremarkable soldier - he won no medals for gallantry, though he exhibited conspicuous bravery day after day, for years, and he rose no higher through the ranks than Lance Corporal. Nonetheless, he had an extraordinary war. As a driver for the Royal Army Service Corps, Timber's job was to get ammunition and high explosives to the front line. It was a job with a high casualty rate, sometimes higher than front-line troops. The 50th Division was the principal fighting division of the British Army in the Second World War. Four men of the 50th were awarded Victoria Crosses, more than any other division. It was last off the beach at Dunkirk and the first back on it on D-Day; the division was at the heart of El Alamein and the major actions which followed; it took part in the invasion of Sicily and fought all the way from Normandy to Germany, where Timber saw first-hand the horrors of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Timber's story is pretty much the British war experience from the point of view of an ordinary soldier. He was even captured, saw Rommel and escaped. This book, written by his son Mike, is based on Neville's extensive wartime diaries and original documents he retained from the war as well as on long conversations between the two of them when Mike transcribed the diaries as a gift for his father in 2006. Timber died in 2015.

The book chronicles the events that occurs in the final year before the bloodless beginning of the Second American Civil War. "Whatever the reason for this civil war," Archivist Graham North said, "it is dwarfed by the simple fact that twenty eight million men, women and children vanished." This dramatization follows the actions and inactions of over one hundred people who let themselves force a nation and the world at large toward war. Religion, politics, region, language and stupidity are equally represented in vivid detail.
