Two Worlds in One Mirror is a poetic dialogue between father and son. Stephan Dahan battled a critical life-afflicting addiction and found a voice on the page in poetry. His father, Serge Dahan, an avid writer of poetry himself, found footing on the page as well. This collection is a beautiful conversation between father and son Ð both seeking the best for one another and the best in humankind. The poems seem to transcend everyday benevolence Ð and reach to a place where they are each called and call each other to be heroic in their ultimate transformations.

The Undefeated Mind written by Alex Lickerman and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-11-06 with Self-Help categories.

Legions of self-help authors rightly urge personal development as the key to happiness, but they typically fail to focus on its most important objective: hardiness. Though that which doesn't kill us can make us stronger, as Nietzsche tells us, few authors today offer any insight into just how to springboard from adversity to strength. It doesn't just happen automatically, and it takes practice. New scientific research suggests that resilience isn't something with which only a fortunate few of us have been born, but rather something we can all take specific action to develop. To build strength out of adversity, we need a catalyst. What we need, according to Dr. Alex Lickerman, is wisdom—wisdom that adversity has the potential to teach us. Lickerman's underlying premise is that our ability to control what happens to us in life may be limited, but we have the ability to establish a life-state to surmount the suffering life brings us. The Undefeated Mind distills the wisdom we need to create true resilience into nine core principles, including: A new definition of victory and its relevance to happiness The concept of the changing of poison into medicine A way to view prayer as a vow we make to ourselves. A method of setting expectations that enhances our ability to endure disappointment and minimizes the likelihood of quitting An approach to taking personal responsibility and moral action that enhances resilience A process for managing pain—both physical and emotional—that enables us to push through obstacles that might otherwise prevent us from attaining our goals A method of leveraging our relationships with others that helps us manifest our strongest selves Through stories of patients who have used these principles to overcome suffering caused by unemployment, unwanted weight gain, addiction, rejection, chronic pain, retirement, illness, loss, and even death, Dr. Lickerman shows how we too can make these principles function within our own lives, enabling us to develop for ourselves the resilience we need to achieve indestructible happiness. At its core, The Undefeated Mind urges us to stop hoping for easy lives and focus instead on cultivating the inner strength we need to enjoy the difficult lives we all have.

It All Depends On The Dose written by Ole Peter Grell and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022 with Drugs categories.

This is the first volume to take a broad historical sweep of the close relation between medicines and poisons in the Western tradition, and their interconnectedness. They are like two ends of a spectrum, for the same natural material can be medicine or poison, depending on the dose, and poisons can be transformed into medicines, while medicines can turn out to be poisons. The book looks at important moments in the history of the relationship between poisons and medicines in European history, from Roman times, with the Greek physician Galen, through the Renaissance and the maverick physican Paracelsus, to the present, when poisons are actively being turned into beneficial medicines. A Cheap Safe And Natural Medicine written by Deborah Madden and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-06-29 with Medical categories.

John Wesley’s Primitive Physic (1747) achieved twenty-three editions in his lifetime, ensuring its popular – and controversial – status in eighteenth-century medicine. This is the first full-length study to examine the theological, intellectual and cultural background to one of the period’s most successful medical texts. By exploring Wesley’s work in the context of his theology, ‘A Cheap, Safe and Natural Medicine’ extends the on-going reconfiguration of the relationship between religion and medicine. Wesley was on a theological mission to recover the primitive purity of the first Christians. Yet the remedies contained within Primitive Physic suggest a pragmatic thinker, whose concern for spiritual health did not prevent him from providing practical assistance to those who needed it. The evolution of Wesley’s thinking also demonstrates some of the struggles he faced as leader of the Methodist movement, such as the way he handled contemporary criticism of Primitive Physic when religious ‘enthusiasm’ was often conflated with medical ‘quackery’. 'A Cheap, Safe and Natural Medicine' will be of interest not only to medical and literary historians, but to anyone who is interested in the way religion influences medicine.
