Unthinkable Tenderness written by Juan Gelman and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-04-28 with Poetry categories.

Juan Gelman is Argentina's leading poet, but his work has been almost unknown in the United States until now. In 2000, he received the Juan Rulfo Award, one most important literary awards in the Spanish-speaking world, and in 2007, he received the Cervantes Prize, the Spanish-speaking world's top literary prize. With this selection, chosen and superbly translated by Joan Lindgren, Gelman's lush and visceral poetry comes alive for an English-speaking readership. Gelman is a stark witness to the brutality of power, and his poems reflect his suffering at the hands of the Argentine military government (his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchild were "disappeared"). While political idealism infuses his writing, he is not a servant of ideology. Themes of family, exile, the tango, Argentina, and Gelman's Jewish heritage resonate throughout his poems, works that celebrate life while confronting heartache and loss. "remembering their little bones when it rains/ the compañerosstomp on darkness/set forth from death/wander the tender night/I hear their voices like living faces"—from Remembering Their Little Bones This title is part of UC Press's Voices Revived program, which commemorates University of California Press's mission to seek out and cultivate the brightest minds and give them voice, reach, and impact. Drawing on a backlist dating to 1893, Voices Revived makes high-quality, peer-reviewed scholarship accessible once again using print-on-demand technology. This title was originally published in 1997. Traces the evolution of a gifted lyrical poet's encounter with the political. When the poet's on in law and daughter 'disappear', kidnapped by the Argentinian government, the poet must write from both a lyrical and physical exile. In this posthumously published labor of love by translator Hardie St Nartin, Gelman's staggering biography and the poetics he developed to articulate and survive it are unforgettably translated into beautiful and accessible poems that when taken together weave a fragile but healing transformation.

The Poetry Of The Americas written by Harris Feinsod and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Literary Criticism categories.

"This book narrates exchanges between English- and Spanish-language poets in the American hemisphere from the late 1930s through the rise of the 1960s. It doing so, it contributes to a crucial current of humanistic inquiry: the effort to write a cosmopolitan literary history adequate to the age of globalization. Building on correspondence and manuscripts from collections in Europe and the Americas, the book first traces the material contours of an evolving literary network that exceeds the conventional model of "the two Americas." These relations depend on changing contexts: an era of state-sponsored transnationalism, from the wartime intensification of Good Neighbor diplomacy, to the Cold War cultural policy programs of the Alliance for Progress in the 1960s; a prosperous market for translations of Latin American poetry in the US; and a growing alternative print sphere of bilingual vanguard journals such as El Corno Emplumado (Mexico City, 1962-1969). As the book articulates these histories of exchange, it also theorizes how poets employ the resources of language to transform popular images of the hemisphere from a locus of political conflict into a venue of supranational cultural citizenship. Feinsod describes how inter-Americanism was enacted through diplomatic structures of literary address, multilingual writing, and appeals to a shared indigenous heritage through the genre of the meditation on ruins. By tracing the coevolution of midcentury poetry with the geopolitics of the hemisphere, the book expands existing literary histories of the period through revelatory comparative readings supported by archival findings"--

"For those who have the privilege and the daring to read poetry, the surprise and discovery never end. Such is the case with the poetics of Dr. Jacob Isaac in the twenty-two poems that make up his book Sense of Enigma presented here in its bilingual (English-Spanish) version. Due to my audacity to reincarnate his poetry for Spanish readers, I have recreated them in the Spanish Language and hopefully without betraying them in the traditional possibility of "traditore traduttore." The creation of this poet is challenging and uncommon." Luis Alberto Ambroggio North-American Academy of the Spanish Language The author of Sense of Enigma, Jacob Isaac, explores almost all the throes and imaginative possibilities of Fantasy, as it affects the human mind, the inner self with feelings, and even some physical attributes of man. This in-depth poetic report will stimulate the thoughts of habits, amusements, pride, and other sometimes hidden responses when experimenting with fantasy. Its imagery opens many doors and closes none Rex B. Valentine - USA I am deeply impressed with the skillful hand of Mr. Jacob Isaac in writing poetry. He has powerful pen that can magnify the barely unseen to make it apparent to the naked eyes. He is one of those poets who can touch the human soul by simply saying a word. How he transforms images into reality and reality into images is quite remarkable. In effect, Mr. Jacob Isaac's writings, are collections of precious jewels in the art of poetry. Renato B.
