Across the centuries, the international division of labor has included a variety of translocal circuits for the mobility of labor and capital, many of which still exist today. This paper examines the incipient formation of the global labor markets at the top and at the bottom of the economic system. It focuses on the two sites that comprise the two global labor markets, on the global south and the global north: one site is the global city, another- is a set of global south countries. The gender issue is also broadly discussed in the publication as women are the key labor supply and secure the necessary functions in global cities.

Women Exiting Prison written by Bree Carlton and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-02 with Social Science categories.

Women’s incarceration is on the rise globally and this has significant intergenerational, economic and humanitarian costs for communities across the world. While there have been efforts to implement reform, particularly in countries such as Canada, UK, US and Australia, the growing evidence suggests women’s prisons and the support structures surrounding them are in crisis. This collection of critical essays presents groundbreaking research on women’s post-imprisonment policy, practice and experiences. It is the first collection to offer international perspectives on gender, criminalisation, the effects of imprisonment and women-centred approaches to the short and long-term support of women exiting prison. It offers cutting-edge insights into contemporary policy developments and women’s experiences across the US, the UK, Australia, Canada and Northern Ireland. The collection makes two important contributions. First, it marks a departure from an instrumental and individual focus on ‘what works’ to reduce women’s offending and re-offending behaviour - a prevailing approach within competing collections focused on post-release issues. Second, it presents critical, original research with robust empirical foundations to revive feminist criminological engagement around gender, imprisonment, and most critically, post-release management, support and survival. The collection will appeal to academics and community-based advocates, activists, lawyers and practitioners engaged in advocacy and service provision for imprisoned women. It is also an important and unique analysis for undergraduate and postgraduate students studying criminological and social science courses particularly those related to gender and crime, imprisonment and correctional policy and qualitative research methods.

Mobility And Globalization In The Aftermath Of Covid 19 written by Maximiliano E. Korstanje and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-08-14 with Political Science categories.

This book argues that COVID-19 revives a much deeper climate of terror which was instilled by terrorism and the War on Terror originally declared by Bush's administration in 2001. It discusses critically not only the consequences of COVID-19 on our daily lives but also “the end of hospitality”, at least as we know it. Since COVID-19 started spreading across the globe, it affected not only the tourism industry but also ground global trade to a halt. Governments adopted restrictive measures to stop the spread of the virus, including the closure of borders, and airspace, the introduction of strict lockdowns and social distancing, much of which led to large-scale cancellations of international and domestic flights. This book explores how global tourists, who were largely considered ambassadors of democratic and prosperous societies in the pre-pandemic days, have suddenly become undesired guests.

This ground-breaking collection reflects the growing momentum of interest in the international legal community in meshing the insights of queer legal theory with those critical theories that have a much longer genealogy – notably postcolonial and feminist analyses. Beyond the push in the human rights field to ensure respect for the rights of people with diverse sexual orientations and gender identities, queer legal theory provides a means to examine the structural assumptions and conceptual architecture that underpin the normative framework and operation of international law, highlighting bias and blind spots and offering fresh perspectives and practical innovations. The contributors to the book use queer legal theory to critically analyse the basic tenets and operations of international law, with many surprising, thought-provoking and instructive results. The volume will be of interest to many scholars, students and researchers in international law, international relations, cultural studies, gender studies, queer studies and postcolonial studies.

Internal exclusion, rather than full democratic inclusion, characterizes European immigration societies. Migrants build a part of politics and society, yet they are structurally excluded from participation in certain segments of the life. This edited volume aims to contribute to the explanation of the unequal access to differentiated rights and resources by using the concept of inclusion and exclusion. It focuses on material and symbolic mechanisms and conditions, attitudes and discourses, which produce differentiated rights and belongings of migrants. The book includes both conceptual-theoretical and empirical contributions. The topics addressed include: how spatial and temporal criteria regulate the access to social and political rights, which conflicts and negotiation processes over citizenship are taking place, which political actors are involved in these processes, and how civil society protests against exclusion.
