O título dado a este projeto é o de “Uma anatomia do poder eclesiástico.” A expressão “poder eclesiástico” é em si própria uma subversão da lógica e da dinâmica ministerial na Igreja. Há inúmeras ocasiões nos Evangelhos onde o tema emerge. A história do Cristianismo também nos ajuda a identificar momentos e situações de subversão da ministerialidade na Igreja. A reflexão e a experiência de relação da Igreja com o mundo também não é isenta de ambiguidades. Como se desenvolveram, então, e se alimentaram estas lógicas de “poder” na Igreja? Quais as suas maiores consequências? Quais as aprendizagens feitas e como evitar cair novamente em semelhantes situações de subversão da natureza e missão da Igreja? Para responder a estas questões, e outras que possam surgir, entretanto, propõe-se a realização de “uma anatomia”. O objetivo desta a “anatomia do poder eclesiástico” é o de se observarem e identificarem as estruturas e formas de clericalismo na Igreja contemporânea, em particular na realidade portuguesa.

Em 2019, o Papa Francisco reuniu bispos do mundo inteiro para combater o flagelo dos abusos sexuais por membros do clero.
