La fuga, spesso in modo illegale, rappresenta anche un’opportunità, un modo per realizzare i propri sogni di libertà ed indipendenza economica. La maggioranza di loro tenta l’ingresso in Europa vista come unica realtà possibile di sopravvivenza; quindi con sacrifici immensi racimolano i soldi per affrontare il viaggio della salvezza. I traghettatori di anime hanno pochi scrupoli, pongono condizioni perentorie, esosi pagamenti per la traversata e non ci pensano due volte a gettare in mare coloro che durante il viaggio periscono per gli stenti e per la mancanza totale di condizioni igieniche. Il mar Mediterraneo se potesse parlare racconterebbe della tanta disperazione che si cela tra le sue acque; migliaia di corpi giacciono nei suoi fondali; tutto questo per aver sognato una vita migliore, per aver sperato… Fiorì Palmeri racconta di come l’Italia, materna ed al centro del Mediterraneo, da sempre abbia avuto un ruolo predominante nell’accogliere queste vite. Fiorì Palmeri ha trascorso i suoi primi ventitré anni a Patti, in provincia di Messina, ma ben quarantacinque a Schio. Per quasi vent’anni ha collaborato con il quotidiano “Il Gazzettino” e con altri giornali della provincia di Vicenza. Per due mandati è stato consigliere comunale ed ha ricoperto incarichi politici e culturali. Ha insegnato materie letterarie nelle scuole medie della città.

Questi divoratori della galassia terrorizzano angeli e demoni, e turbano i sogni dei bambini.
