Pero un testigo, el guitarrista Jose Maria Aguilar, ha sobrevivido para descifrar o al menos contar, lo sucedido. Quien era esa persona que varios creyeron ver y que habria propiciado el choque de los aviones? Que atroz historia esconde? En una tarde de 1951, cuando Aguilar ingresa a una tertulia que reune a periodistas y poetas, ese enigma empieza a develarse y Gardel, todo Gardel, renace. Su vida, desde el casi inasible nacimiento hasta el rapido final, vuelve a pasar ampliada por el lente de la admiracion y la nostalgia, ordenada por las memorias superpuestas, que reconstruyen la infancia en el Abasto, los comienzos del cantor, sus mujeres, su fama, sus polemicas, su olvido imposible. Un narrador anota y consigna estos relatos, y con un golpe maestro, cuando todo parecia dicho, desempolva un diario inedito del gran Alfredo Le Pera, alma incandescente, figura impar de la bohemia portena de las primeras decadas del siglo que deja una mirada dura y pesimista sobre un tiempo fastuoso y vencedor.
