El pediatra y navegante cántabro Álvaro González de Aledo cuenta en este libro la navegación que realizó a la Isla de Elba y el Archipiélago Toscano en el Corto Maltés, su pequeño velero de serie de seis metros de eslora, volviendo a España por el río Ródano y los canales del Sur de Francia. Fue un viaje lleno de incidentes, desde el primer día durante el transporte por carretera al Mediterráneo, durante la navegación, con abundantes golpes de mistral , y hasta los últimos días con averías del fueraborda, que estuvieron a punto de hacerle abandonar. Hasta tal punto se concentraron en este viaje los problemas que el autor consideró que Murphy se le había colado de polizón y fue haciendo un tanteo de las veces en que este le asestaba un golpe frente a las veces que le sonreía la fortuna de forma inesperada. Y con independencia del resultado final, considera que la navegación en barcos pequeños y con escaso presupuesto continúa siendo una de las formas más simples de descubrir el mundo y la felicidad sencilla . En este libro, en vez de dibucartas o dibupoemas, ha incrustado en el texto "dibufirmas" , el más difícil todavía de convertir las letras en dibujos. Ha hecho sus siluetas con las letras de una sola palabra, y por tratarse de un libro de náutica, dibujos de los barcos más variados y siempre con el nombre de los puertos en los que recaló. Otra forma original y atípica de que el lector disfrute con él de cada escala. El libro está prologado por los navegantes trans-mundistas Isabel Navarro y Guillermo Cabal , que en su velero "Tin Tin" están dando la vuelta al mundo a vela.

En este libro nos relata la larga travesía que en 2018 emprendió con su velero, el Corto Maltés, para dar la vuelta a Francia.Saliendo de Santander ascendió la costa atlántica hasta Bretaña, a continuación el Canal de la Mancha hasta cerca de la frontera con Bélgica, y finalmente el descenso por los ríos y canales del interior de Francia hasta el Mediterráneo.Sorprendentemente los mares gruesos de Bretaña y Normandía no fueron lo difícil del viaje, sino las aguas interiores, colmatadas de algas y sin recursos para apoyar a la navegación de recreo, que casi le obligan a abandonar por sucesivas averías del fueraborda.Tres meses, más de dos mil millas y el descubrimiento de trece ríos son el balance de la circunnavegación de Francia. Una colección de anécdotas y sitios maravillosos y sorprendentes, como la navegación bajo la Torre Eiffel o por el río La Rance, frenado por una presa mareomotriz que provoca mareas artificiales, independientes de la luna. Todas ellas contadas con naturalidad e ironía, y como sin darse importancia. Porque como reconoce el autor, antes de salir había estudiado las múltiples dificultades del recorrido, que casi le hacen desistir de intentarlo con su barquito. Pero por el camino fue comprendiendo que estas advertencias eran como el perro que ladra a un espejo y se asusta de sí mismo.Pasa mucho en la vela, de tanto repetir los posibles peligros terminamos creyéndonoslos, alimentando nuestros propios temores y los de los demás. Está claro que esos peligros existen, pero sobre todo si no se planifica bien y uno termina en el lugar inapropiado en el peor momento. Pero finalmente el Corto Maltés (un velerito de menos de siete metros y con un fueraborda de 8 CV, y al final del viaje de 6 CV) pasó por todos esos sitios y circunstancias, teóricamente tan peligrosos, sin ninguna di cultad, disfrutando día a día de la navegación sin ningún incidente grave.El libro está ilustrado con "dibufirmas" (el nombre de los puertos de recalada transformado en la silueta de un barco) y ha sido prologado por Santiago González Zunzundegui, navegante transmundista vasco, que en su velero JoTaKe dio la vuelta al mundo con su familia.
