È piuttosto raro trovare pronunciamenti critici a proposito della laicità. A volte se ne ammette un momento di difficoltà, ma per serrare le fila a sua difesa. La laicità è davvero un valore tra i più condivisi; non solo: spesso è addirittura identificata con la modernità, e quasi sempre con l’identità stessa dell’Europa. Dello stesso autore de Il rompicapo della secolarizzazione italiana, questo libro si chiede se non sia il caso di avviare una più attenta discussione sulla laicità, e se non sia il caso di sostituire alcune certezze con altrettante domande. La ricerca muove dalle spiegazioni del momento difficile attraversato dai regimi di laicità, le quali, curiosamente, sovrastimano il cosiddetto ritorno della religione. Dopo aver proposto una serie di interrogativi, termina avanzandone un ultimo: serve a qualcosa parlare di laicità «sana», o «buona», o «positiva», o ...? E se si trattasse di riconoscere le alternative alla laicità? E dunque di relativizzare la laicità?

Come si può parlare oggi di religione e che cosa significa ancora (o di nuovo) per noi?
