Era stata concepita da un architetto tedesco per un re di Prussia, creata da artigiani tedeschi e apparteneva quindi alla categoria delle opere che la Germania aveva il “diritto di recuperare” e custodire nel cuore del Reich. Fu questa la filosofia con cui le autorità di Berlino, dopo l’Anschluss con l’Austria nel 1938, si impadronirono dell’intero apparato – corona, scettro, paramenti – utilizzato per l’incoronazione del Sacro Romano Imperatore (gli oggetti tornarono a Vienna alla fine della guerra e sono ora nella Camera del tesoro del Kunst Historisches Museum).
