Cuba's cultural influence throughout the Western Hemisphere, and especially in the United States, has been disproportionally large for so small a country. This landmark volume is the first comprehensive overview of poetry written over the past sixty years. Presented in a beautiful Spanish-English en face edition, The Whole Island makes available the astonishing achievement of a wide range of Cuban poets, including such well-known figures as Nicolás Guillén, José Lezama Lima, and Nancy Morejón, but also poets widely read in Spanish who remain almost unknown to the English-speaking world—among them Fina García Marruz, José Kozer, Raúl Hernández Novás, and Ángel Escobar—and poets born since the Revolution, like Rogelio Saunders, Omar Pérez, Alessandra Molina, and Javier Marimón. The translations, almost all of them new, convey the intensity and beauty of the accompanying Spanish originals. With their work deeply rooted in Cuban culture, many of these poets—both on and off the island—have been at the center of the political and social changes of this tempestuous period. The poems offered here constitute an essential source for understanding the literature and culture of Cuba, its diaspora, and the Caribbean at large, and provide an unparalleled perspective on what it means to be Cuban.

Cubans today are at home in diasporas that stretch from Miami to Mexico City to Moscow. Back on the island, watching as fellow Cubans leave, the impact of departure upon departure can be wrenching. How do Cubans confront their condition as an uprooted people? The Portable Island: Cubans at Home in the World offers a stunning chorus of responses, gathering some of the most daring Cuban writers, artists, and thinkers to address the haunting effect of globalization on their own lives.

Acclaimed by many as one of the most gifted essayists and stylists in American letters these last few decades, Richard Rodriguez has left an indelible imprint on the tradition of autobiographical writing of the nation. Rodeño’s study of the four installments of Rodriguez’s self-writing offers an insightful and perspicacious analysis of the evolution and the most controversial elements in this Chicano writer’s production so far. Delving deeply into issues of racial and ethnic identity, sexual orientation, religious background, various types of hybridity, and different forms of socio-cultural adaptation, this book presents all kinds of incisive observations about the contested space(s) that “minority” self-writers are often pushed to occupy in the American tradition of the genre.

Island in the Light / Isla en la luz is a fascinating and insightful compilation that pairs contemporary Cuban visual art and literature by having 30 prominent writers respond to the works of 35 renowned artists. Contemporary Cuban art, literature, and music come together in Island in the Light / Isla en la luz. This bilingual compilation of the work of 35 artists and 30 writers began by selecting artwork by renowned artists and asking prominent writers to create original stories, poems, or essays in response. The result is a thoroughly original and captivating selection of visual arts and literature in dialogue that conveys a sense of the essence and energy of Cuban arts today. Artists represented include Tania Bruguera, Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons, Yoan Capote, Teresita Fernández, Roberto Fabelo, Carlos Garaicoa, and Enrique Martinez Celaya. Among the writers are Wendy Guerra, José Kozer, Jorge Enrique Lage, Legna Rodríguez Iglesias, Achy Obejas, Leonardo Padura, and Reina María Rodríguez. The works are drawn from the Jorge M. Pérez Art Collection; the majority have been gifted to the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), while the others are promised gifts to PAMM. The volume also includes music: Pavel Urkiza composed original scores inspired by several of the selections that readers link to through QR codes. In addition to the short stories, poems, and essays inspired by the artwork, the volume includes commentary and critical essays by Jorge M. Pérez, Carlos Garaicoa, and Wendy Guerra and Leonardo Padura. Proceeds benefit The Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation, which will redirect the funds to arts organizations.

But if the experience of both art and world is non-linear and polyphonic-many voices clamoring simultaneously for attention-the problem for the artist is how, as the work proceeds, to suggest the presence of those other voices. Bach injects discords suggesting the presence of unheard, parallel harmonic structures; Kozer changes tone, linguistic class, reference, and language itself, each echoing beyond its enunciation. The "logic" of the movement moment to moment within Kozer's poems is often profoundly non-logical-the accident of two words sharing a phoneme may lead from one universe of allusion to another, one image suggesting the next. By the poem's end a tangle of pheonomena has been projected and a path found through it. This can be a dizzying experience for reader or listener. We're being asked to tease out the complexities as we proceed, and we can only proceed by immersion.

La Luminosidad De Los S Balos Muertos written by Mario Arteca and has been published by Miño y Dávila this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-07-05 with Poetry categories.

El Nihilismo Mexicano Una Reflexi N Filos Fica written by Mario Teodoro Ramírez and has been published by Bonilla Artigas Editores this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-16 with Philosophy categories.

Nihilismo y filosofía (Nietzche, Heidegger y Vattimo. El realismo especulativo: Quentin Meillassous y Markus Gabriel). La superación del nihilismo mexicano. ¿Para quién es la filosofía? Neohumanismo, posnihilismo y filosofía mexicana.
