The #MeToo movement sparked a much-needed discussion about sexual violence and the importance of consent. This insightful resource teaches readers exactly what consent means and how they can set clear boundaries, not only in their love lives, but in everyday life. The narrative emphasizes crucial points for readers, such as listening to their own body and mind, establishing what is comfortable for them, and recognizing that their voice should be heard and understood. "No" always means "no," and "yes" is something a person gives of their own free will; it is not taken.

Attitudes about the importance of boundaries and consent are changing, largely because of the #MeToo movement, where women wrote about their experiences with sexual assault and harassment on social media. As teenagers start dating and having relationships, it is important to understand what it means to maintain healthy boundaries--both physical and emotional ones. In physical relationships, it is also important to understand consent, which should be fully informed, free of coercion, specific, reversable, and enthusiastic.

Consent is not merely a sexual issue. Failure to talk about consent with your children before they are educated about sex is overlooking the dangers that our children face long before they decide to become sexually active. Consent education is your child's superpower. Open communication with children, beginning at a young age will help safeguard them from dangers around them, as well as help to raise a generation to respect sexual boundaries as they mature. This book is intended to separate the topics of consent and sexual activity, in order to make consent a topic that can be learned at any age. Each scenario and example is complete with a range of talking points for each age group. The lessons in this book will help guide conversations to ensure that you are able to inform and/or support your child if their boundaries are disrespected.

With conversations about sexual violence, consent, and bodily autonomy dominating national conversations it can be easy to get lost in the onslaught of well-intended but often poorly executed messages. Through an exploration of research, scholarly expertise, and practical real-world application we can better formulate an understanding of what consent is, how we create consent cultures, and where the path forward lies. This book is designed with both educators and parents in mind. The tools highlighted throughout help adults unlearn harmful narratives about consent, boundaries, and relationships so that they can begin their work internally through modeling and self-reflection. We then uncover what consent truly is and is not, how culture plays an integral role in interpersonal scripting, and how teaching consent as a life skill can look in and out of the classroom. By integrating the need for consent to be taught in schools and homes we build bridges between the spaces where children learn and create alliances in the often-daunting task of eradicating rape-culture. This book is perfect for those already comfortable and familiar with this topic as well as those newer to understanding consent as a paradigm. Starting with a strong historical and research-informed foundation the book builds into action-oriented guidelines for conversations, curriculum, and community activism. This blended approach creates a guidebook that is unlike anything else on the market today.

This book offers a unique interactive approach to addressing the issues sexual consent and discontent. However, there are different ways of thinking, and how we think about sex will affect how we approach it. This is critical to avoiding errors that can cause unhappiness and even abuse. The approach I have put forward in this book is two-fold. The first is reflexive - understanding ourselves. Any sort of interaction with someone else at whatever level needs some kind of reflexivity. We often say things that hurt or please others unintentionally. Most of us do not have the benefit of the other person communicating their feels to us directly and so we depend heavily on emotional intelligence. This is the privilege and the burden of social interaction. It is hard work and requires us to go back and ask ourselves questions about how we come across and how to be accepted.

Consent is used in many different social and legal contexts with the pervasive understanding that it is, and has always been, about autonomy – but has it? Beginning with an overview of consent’s role in law today, this book investigates the doctrine’s inseparable association with personal autonomy and its effect in producing both idealised and demonised forms of personhood and agency. This prompts a search for alternative understandings of consent. Through an exploration of sexual offences in Antiquity, medical practice in the Middle Ages, and the regulation of bodily harm on the present-day sports field, this book demonstrates that, in contrast to its common sense story of autonomy, consent more often operates as an act of submission than as a form of personal freedom or agency. The book explores the implications of this counter-narrative for the law’s contemporary uses of consent, arguing that the kind of freedom consent is meant to enact might be foreclosed by the very frame in which we think about autonomy itself. This book will be of interest to scholars of many aspects of law, history, and feminism as well as students of criminal law, bioethics, and political theory.

The Ethics Of Consent written by Franklin Miller and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-10-30 with Medical categories.

Consent is a basic component of the ethics of human relations, making permissible a wide range of conduct that would otherwise be wrongful. Consent marks the difference between slavery and employment, permissible sexual relations and rape, borrowing or selling and theft, medical treatment and battery, participation in research and being a human guinea pig. This book assembles the contributions of a distinguished group of scholars concerning the ethics of consent in theory and practice. Part One addresses theoretical perspectives on the nature and moral force of consent, and its relationship to key ethical concepts, such as autonomy and paternalism. Part Two examines consent in a broad range of contexts, including sexual relations, contracts, selling organs, political legitimacy, medicine, and research.
