Dispirited written by David Webster and has been published by John Hunt Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-06-29 with Philosophy categories.

Dave Webster’s book is a counter-blast against the culturally accepted norm that spirituality is a vital and important factor in human life. Rejecting the idea of human wellbeing as predicated on the spiritual, the book seeks to identify the toxic impact of spiritual discourses on our lives. Spirituality makes us confused, apolitical and miserable - whether that spirituality is from conventional religious roots, from a new-age buffet of beliefs, or from some re-imagined ancient system of belief. Looking beyond this dismissal, the book looks towards atheistic existentialism, Theravada Buddhism and political engagement as a means to imagine what a post-spiritual world view could look like. ,

Spiritual Pragmatism written by Endall Beall and has been published by CreateSpace this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-10-05 with categories.

Spiritual Pragmatism deals with the advancement of human consciousness in light of the current political paradigm in the world at the present time. This book offers an overview of certain political issues in light of changing human consciousness and provides a few solutions to some of the issues humanity is eventually going to have to come to terms with as our species consciousness advances. Spiritual Pragmatism takes a hard look into mass psychology and explains what is at the root of many of the problems we face worldwide, and specifically explains how a change in human consciousness can alter the world for the better. This book is not an exhaustive study but offers guidelines and serious food for thought in regard to advancing human cognitive awareness. Continuing in the tradition of the books in The Evolution of Consciousness series, this companion volume to the series leaves it incumbent on the reader to delve more deeply into the subject matter presented in this book if they desire more comprehensive understanding of the issues raised. Most people in the modern spiritual movement in the West are completely unaware of the political ties modern spirituality has with the traditions of Theosophy and its intimate links with Fabian Socialism, Marxism and Capitalism. This book takes the reader down the dark rabbit hole of these connections to prove that there is more to the modern spiritual movement than meets the eye. Everyone interested in more pragmatic spiritual understanding needs to be acquainted with these facts in order to make their own informed conscious choices in regard to what spirit road they choose to travel.

The Persistence Of Religion written by Harvey G. Cox and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-10-30 with Religion categories.

In the nineteenth century, Nietzsche famously announced that God was dead. In the twentieth century, increasing reliance on science and technology led to a widespread rejection of belief on the grounds of its irrationality. Yet religion has not died. In fact, the opposite has occurred: it has persisted and proliferated. Despite the relentless pursuit of scientific advancement, in the twenty-first century we now see religious influence everywhere. In this wide-ranging dialogue, two leading commentators on religion address - from their different but complementary traditions of Christianity and Buddhism - the continuing appeal of spirituality to people eager to explore fundamental questions of meaning. The authors indicate that science, for all its benefits, has limits of explanation. It may be able to show how, but not necessarily why. Yet belief too must not go unchallenged, since, as Ikeda says, 'religion can become either a medicine or a poison'. What then is the proper role of religion in a world plagued by intolerance and extremism? The authors point to its place in dialogue, education and peacebuilding. They emphasise the centrality of non-violence, and the inspiring examples of Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela. In so doing they recount formative experiences of involvement in the civil rights movement and protest against Vietnam (Cox) and personal exposure to the misery and destruction of war (Ikeda). Their joint vision of a just and true religious sensibility makes a vital contribution to the fields of religion, peace studies and ethics.
