The Oxford Handbook Of Higher Education Systems And University Management written by Gordon Redding and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-25 with categories.

This Handbook sets out a theoretical framework to explain what higher education systems are, how they may be compared over time, and why comparisons are important in terms of societal progress in an increasingly turbulent and interconnected world. Drawing on insights from over 40 leading international scholars and practitioners, the chapters examine the main challenges facing universities and institutions, how they should be managed in changingconditions, and the societal implications of different approaches to change. Structured around the premise that higher education plays a significant role in ensuring that a society achieves the capacity to adjust itselfto change, while at the same time remaining cohesive as a social system, this Handbook explores how current internal and external forces disturb this balance, and how institutions of higher education could, and might, respond.

Teaching And Research In Contemporary Higher Education written by Jung Cheol Shin and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-19 with Education categories.

This book discusses how teaching and research have been weighted differently in academia in 18 countries and one region, Hong Kong SAR, based on an international comparative study entitled the Changing Academic Profession (CAP). It addresses these issues using empirical evidence, the CAP data. Specifically, the focus is on how teaching and research are defined in each higher education system, how teaching and research are preferred and conducted by academics, and how academics are rewarded by their institution. Since the establishment of Berlin University in 1810, there has been controversy on teaching and research as the primary functions of universities and academics. The controversy increased when Johns Hopkins University was established in 1876 with only graduate programs, and more recently with the release of the Carnegie Foundation report Scholarship Reconsidered by Ernest L. Boyer in 1990. Since the publication of Scholarship Reconsidered in 1990, higher education scholars and policymakers began to pay attention to the details of teaching and research activities, a kind of ‘black box’ because only individual academics know how they conduct teaching and research in their own contexts.

This book aims to provide a coherent and thoughtful framework for viewing the complex issues related to grading and reporting student learning. The primary goal of grading and reporting is recognized as communication, and grading and reporting are seen to be integral parts of the instructional process. Chapter 1 explores why grading and reporting methods should be changed, and chapter 2 considers some lessons from the past and recent research that should be applied. Several broad guidelines are presented in chapter 3. Chapter 4 explains why report cards are not enough alone. Chapters 5 and 6 review the grading methods that work best. How to grade and report on the achievement of students with special needs is the focus of chapter 7. Chapter 8 explores the major problems that should be addressed in grading and reporting, and chapter 9 considers some exemplary models of reporting systems that could be used. Chapter 10 describes the reporting tools that could be used in a comprehensive reporting system. (Contains 6 tables, 23 figures, and 241 references.) (SLD)
