Scottish philosophy had a decisive impact in the 18th century, not only on the English-speaking world but also on the Enlightment in central Europe. That impact was perhaps most greatly felt in Germany, where the advancement of Scottish moral sense philosophy, Hume's Scepticism and Common Sense philosophy was marked by a series of important translations. Six of the most significant texts, most of them very rare today, are reprinted here. Although some of the works by Scottish philosophers were known and discussed before the death of Christian Wolff, their importance increased considerably after the decline of German school metaphysics around the middle of the century. English at that time was less widely known, so the German editions became highly influential. The translations were often by important German Enlightenment thinkers and philosophers such as Lessing and Christian Garve, and several were provided with interesting introductions and commentaries by their translators and editions. In the case of Hume's first "Enquiry", the editor Johann Georg Sulzer, an adherent of Wolffian metaphysics, commented extensively on Hume's philosophy. It was this translation that famously woke Kant from his "dogmatic slumber".

In a critical ecological approach, the entanglement of nature in the discourses of supernatural religious doctrine and practice is often perceived as one of the causes of the instrumentalization of the natural world for anthropocentric hegemony over divine creation. On the other hand, a certain “environmental turn” can be observed in the theological discourses of various religions. In addition to the eco-theological tendencies present in contemporary theological reflection within the world’s main religions, another interesting phenomenon is the attempt to restore archaic forms of spirituality in the materialistic discourses of posthumanism. These issues are critically analyzed in individual articles taking into account various approaches and thematic circles.

This book's goal is to determine the significance of visual culture in the production of contemporary poetry and to sound out the insights poetry might generate into contemporary visual culture. Its main hypothesis is that poetry holds considerable potential for (post-)digital language, image, and media criticism. The visual dimensions of recent poetry encompass, for instance, kinetic writing in digital poetry, visual elements in social media poems, and (spoken and written) text-image interactions in poetry films as well as in book poetry. The articles examine these medial correlations and their political implications by asking how visual culture is applied, exposed, and debated in poetry. The title of the book derives from the theme of the 20th Conference on Applied Social Sciences of the Professional Association of German Sociologists, held in Munich in May 2019. What is it like to be young and religious in migration society? This volume presents research at the intersection of religion, age and race. The chapters' foci range from methodological challenges to conceptual work and empirical case studies. The authors present research on various religious traditions including contributions on young Alevis, Hindus, Buddhists and Muslims, and apply an array of theoretical angles among them feminist, post- and de-colonial perspectives. Furthermore, the volume engages in the debate over novel conceptual frameworks attuned to investigate contemporary manifestations of youth religiosity, for example in digital spaces.
