Recommend this book for any Christian who truly cares about people. This is such a genuine, heartfelt book that every member of the church should read. You'll read stories of hurt, and also, stories of redemption. But, you'll discover you are, in fact, not alone. References of these conditions can be found throughout the bible. Shining new light on what was once thought of as shameful and a sin. However, you'll soon learn, nothing is further from the truth. You'll learn how to open your heart up to God and fellow Christians, sharing the burden through love and acceptance. No longer must you hide your pain in the darkness. It's time you become free, become known, become understood and loved for who you really are.

The first Leper Colony in Eastern Nigeria was established at Itu in present Akwa Ibom State by the then Church of Scotland Mission (now Presbyterian Church) in 1928. There, Leprosy patients were assembled and efforts were made to cure and care for them. They were mainly Leprosy sufferers from the old Calabar province. This book's emphasis is on the leper colony at Uzuakoli, the history-making and resourceful town located in the Igbo heartland, 12 miles north of Umuahia; the later is the capital of Abia State of Nigeria.

Excerpt from Leprosy and the Charity of the Church Leprosy seems to be a very ancient disease. The 13th chapter Of the Book Of Leviticus treats of the law concerning leprosy in men and garments, and the 14th chapter, Of the rites of sacrifice in Cleansing leprosy. It was regarded by the ancients as adis ease peculiar to Egypt. Herodotus speaks of it: as existing in Persia. Pliny knew of it, as did Diodorus. Lucretius says: Leprosy is a disease born in Egypt along the waters Of the Nile, and nowhere else. The Hebrews brought it with them from their Egyptian slavery and the Mosaic law shows how dreadful must have been its ravages and how great the terror which it excited. Regarding it as a disease sent directly by God, they required that the person supposed to be infected should go and Show himself to the priest, and, if in his Opinion, the disease was leprosy, he was declared unclean and at once separated from the people. SO strictly was the Mosaic law Observed. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. History's Great Untold Stories: Obscure Events of Lasting Importance will open your eyes to significant places, events and peoples that have been largely excluded from the standard histories we learn yet have directly affected our history. These stories come from far-off lands and little-known places and are as engaging as they are important. History fans will be captivated by the chronicles of events that led to monumental changes in the global geopolitical landscape. From the Chinese explorations 100 years before Columbus that strangely left foreign lands for others to claim, to a Korean Empress often compared to Joan of Arc, whose assassination in 1895 paved the way to the aggressive Japanese imperialism of World War II, readers will witness firsthand the unheralded seeds of the modern age.

Disability in Mission: The Churchs Hidden Treasure outlines a radical change in approaches to missiology, missions, and praxis for the twenty-first-century global cultural context. It explores a pattern whereby God works powerfully in missions through disability and not in spite of it. No matter what our disability or vulnerability may be, God can use us; and if the body of Christ is supportive, people with disability can be effective agents of transformation in the mission field. Via a number of case studies of people with disabilities who are involved in missions, and with robust biblical and missiological justification, this book examines the role of those with disability in missions.
