Der Wettstreit der Dörfer motiviert die Dorfgemeinschaften zu Ideenreichtum und Selbsthilfe und hilft dringende Entwicklungsaufgaben vor Ort zu lösen. Dadurch fördert der Dorfwettbewerb ehrenamtliche Initiativen, deren Bedeutung für die Lösung gesellschaftlicher Aufgaben – in Zeiten leerer kommunaler Haushalte – zukünftig erheblich wachsen wird. Die Zielstellungen des Wettbewerbs entsprechen den aktuellen Herausforderungen des ländlichen Raums, sind jedoch noch nicht tiefgreifend im Wirken der Dorfgemeinschaften und im Verständnis der Bewertungskommissionen verankert. So bedarf es eines Image- und Kommunikationskonzeptes um auch den Nachhaltigkeitsgedanken weiter zu etablieren. Eigeninitiative und Eigenverantwortung können den Rückzug von Versorgungsangeboten und sozialen Sicherungssystemen mit ausgleichen sowie kommunale Aufgaben ergänzen.

Comics emerged parallel to, and in several ways intertwined with, the development of modern urban mass societies at the turn of the 20th century.
