Der Zweite Weltkrieg, der Aufruf, die Produktionsstätten ihres Landes zu erkunden, neue Stoffbereiche, die es zu erschließen galt: Das sind wesentliche Stationen, die die Autoren in der DDR wie in China in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts prägten und einen vergleichbaren Hintergrund für die Entstehungsbedingungen ihrer Werke bilden. Inzwischen ist es still um die Literatur der fünfziger und frühen sechziger Jahre geworden, denn vielfach sieht man in ihr nichts weiter als ein Abbild damaliger Kulturpolitik. Vollzog sich also mit der Gründung beider sozialistischer Staaten 1949 ein Bruch, durch den sich das einzelne literarische Werk den autonomen Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten seines Urhebers entzog? Das Ziel der vorliegenden Studie besteht darin, die „Werkstatt“ der Autoren mittels einer strukturellen Analyse in dem fraglichen Zeitraum näher zu beleuchten. Neben dem Problem, ob sich die Schriftsteller in ihren Schreibpraktiken seit 1949 umorientierten, stellt sich auch die Frage nach Entwicklungen, die bereits in dieser frühen Phase Impulse für sich neu abzeichnende Tendenzen gegen Ende des ersten Jahrzehnts setzten. Die Spanne der behandelten Autoren reicht u. a. von Anna Seghers über Eduard Claudius bis Karl-Heinz Jakobs und Christa Wolf. Ihnen gegenübergestellt wird das Werk ihrer chinesischen Kollegen wie Bing Xin, Lu Ling oder Xu Huaizhong. Stellungnahmen von Autoren und Zeitzeugen, eingeholt durch Briefe, Gespräche und Interviews, gewähren zusätzlich aufschlussreiche Einblicke in das schriftstellerische Arbeiten dieser Zeit. The Second World War, the call to explore their national centres of production, new areas of material to be unlocked: these were essential stages which characterised authors in the GDR and China in the first half of the 20th century. We often see in this literature nothing more than a reflection of contemporary cultural policy. The aim of this study is to shed more light on the authors’ ‘workshop’. The authors examined range from Anna Seghers via Eduard Claudius to Karl-Heinz Jacobs and Christa Wolf. They are contrasted with the work of their Chinese colleagues such as Bing Xin, Lu Ling or Xu Huaizhong. The opinions of authors and contemporary witnesses as expressed in letters, conversations and interviews also offer revealing insights.
