Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Der Kapitalismus hat in den letzten Jahrzehnten eine durchgehende Phase des wirtschaftlichen Aufschwungs und des Wohlstands hervorgebracht. Technischer Fortschritt, gestiegene Lebensqualität, individuelle Freiheit, die Chancen zum sozialen Aufstieg, sind nur einige der Aspekte die mit dem Kapitalismus assoziiert wurden. Die weltweite Vernetzung der Nationalökonomien und der Finanzindustrie hat dabei das theoretische Wirtschaftspotenzial für den Kapitalismus ebenfalls erheblich erweitert. Vor dem Hintergrund der aktuellen Wirtschafts- und Finanzkrise geraten allerdings auch die Schwachpunkte der kapitalistischen Theorie immer mehr in den Fokus der Ökonomen. Besonders das Phänomen der Blasenbildung ist für die Ökonomen von höchstem Interesse, da sich dieses in Verbindung mit der überkapitalisierten Finanzindustrie zu einem systemischen Risiko für die gesamte Weltwirtschaft herausgestellt hat. Nachdem die, nach der Weltwirtschaftskrise der 30 er Jahre, getroffenen Maßnahmen zur Regulierung der Finanzindustrie schrittweise wieder abgebaut wurden, erschien es, mit dem Hintergrund der Finanzkrise und des systemischen Fast-Kollapses des Bankensektors, recht aussichtsreich eine globale Re-regulierung der Finanzindustrie durchsetzen zu können. Das Versagen des Gleichgewichts an den Märkten hat zu einer umfangreichen Ursachenforschung bezüglich der Ursachen der Wirtschafts- und Finanzkrise geführt. Die Ursachenforschung unterscheidet dabei die Ursachen die im System bzw. im gesetzlichen Rahmen desjenigen und den Ursachen die in den Akteuren liegen die innerhalb dieses Systems agieren. Durch den massiven politischen Einfluss und das wirtschaftliche Gewicht der Finanzlobby scheint die angestrebte systemische Neuordnung des globalen Finanzsektors, dem Herz des Kapitalismus, jedoch noch nicht durchsetzbar zu sein. Die kapitalistische Grundidee, Wagnis, Risikobereitschaft und damit Gier zu belohnen und wirtschaftliches Scheitern mit Verlust zu ahnden bleibt bestehen, wobei die systemischen Gefahren übergroßer Gesellschaften und Konzerne anscheinend weiterhin ausgeklammert werden, da nationale Interessen betroffen sind. Auf volkswirtschaftlicher Ebene wird also der Gedanke maximales Risiko mit maximalem Gewinn zu ködern beibehalten, um das Wachstum und den Fortschritt zu stimulieren bzw. nicht abzuwürgen. Nothing affects the modern economy (and society) more than decisions made in the market place, especially, but not only, decisions made by consumers. Although it is not startling to suggest that decisions made in production are affected by choices consumers make, consumers have long been viewed, not only by academic economists, as individual, isolated rational actors that make or refrain from purchases purely on the basis of narrow financial considerations. Markets are not and never were morally neutral. Market relations have always had an often taken-for-granted moral underpinning. The moralization of the markets refers to the dissolution and replacement of the conventional moral underpinnings of market conduct, for example, in the music market, financial markets, and corporate governance. It further implies not only the heightened importance of new ethical precepts, but the significant change in the role of moral ideals in market behavior. These profound transformations of economic conduct are accompanied and co-determined by societal conflicts. The moralization of markets represents thus a new stage in the social evolution of markets. The book is divided into four parts, in which the twelve chapters, written by contributors from different social science disciplines, deal with the context of the moralization of the markets; the major social institutions; and present case studies that examine European and American attitudes and behavior towards tobacco and GMO; expansion of the private and ethics in business; and how workers respond to the new corporate norms.
