Die Wechselwirkung zwischen innenpolitischen Maßnahmen und außenpolitischen Rahmenbedingungen soll gleichsam als roter Faden sichtbar werden8. Um die Grundkenntnisse für das Verständnis des politischen Geschehens nach 1945 zu schaffen und die Kursmitglieder auf einen einheitlichen Wissensstand zu bringen9, wurde zu Beginn des Kurses der Verlauf der europäischen Geschichte von 1870- 1945 wiederholt. Dabei wurde das in dieser Zeit entstandene Bild Deutschlands im Ausland im Interesse des oben genannten Kontinuums besonders akzentuiert.10 Den ersten Schwerpunkt bildete die Besatzungspolitik der Alliierten ausgehend von der Potsdamer Konferenz und ihren Folgen. Daran anschließend wurde auf Anregung der Schüler11 ein als Längsschnitt durchgeführter Exkurs zur Rolle der USA in der Welt eingeschoben, in dessen Verlauf intensiv an Quellen gearbeitet wurde12. Von diesem gelang durch die Truman-Doktrin die Rückkehr zum Kursthema, indem nun die sich sukzessiv verschärfende ideologische Auseinandersetzung zwischen Ost und West mit ihren Konsequenzen für Deutschland bis zur Konstituierung der beiden deutschen Staaten behandelt wurde.
