O livro busca apreender o universo corporal dos moradores de rua adultos na cidade de São Paulo. O propósito da investigação é, por meio da observação etnográfica das práticas e representações corporais de homens e mulheres de rua, compreender que tipo de relação se constrói entre o espaço urbano e o corpo. A partir deste recorte emergiram algumas perspectivas na construção corporal do morador de rua da metrópole estudada, tais como as marcas corporais de sua vida itinerante, as redefinições da fronteira público e privado, e a vulnerabilidade e resistência corporais às condições precárias da rua. O argumento central resultante da pesquisa é de que a construção da corporalidade na rua é uma resposta a ordenações urbanas imperativas, ora marcada pela vulnerabilidade aos processos violentos de repressão e exclusão física e simbólica, ora resistindo, por meio de novas adequações corporais, à sua extinção na cidade.

Brazilian Mobilities presents an overview of the diversity of mobility studies developed in Brazil. It builds a picture of a strong Latin-American perspective emerging in the field of mobilities research, which provides unique insight into the complex dynamics of mobilities in the emerging countries from the Global South. Addressing such different areas as tourism, urbanization, media studies, social inequalities, marketing and mega-events, transport and technology, among others, the contributors use the new mobilities paradigm, or NMP (Sheller & Urry, 2006) as a starting point to reflect about the social changes experienced in the country and they also engage with newer literature on mobilities, including work done by Brazilian and Latin-American authors depending on the subject of each individual chapter. Illustrating to scholars the uniqueness and complexity of the Brazilian social-political and economic context, the book was organized in order to be a representative sample of the studies carried out in Brazil, as well as to contribute to other academic investigations on (im)mobilities and different social realities in emerging countries.

This book examines a variety of subjective spatial experiences and knowledge production practices in order to shed new light on the specifics of contemporary socio-spatial change, driven as it is by inter alia, digitalization, transnationalization, and migration. Considering the ways in which emerging spatial phenomena are conditioned by an increasing interconnectedness, this book asks how spaces are changing as a result of mediatization, increased mobility, globalization, and social dislocation. With attention to questions surrounding the negotiation and (visual) communication of space, it explores the arrangements, spatialities, and materialities that underpin the processes of spatial refiguration by which these changes come about.
