This poetry book is a collection of poems that combine both philosophy and science to discuss consciousness and a universal connection that is within all of us. With his scientific background and passion for art and philosophy, author Steven Michalove is able to blend both worlds in a multitude of collections. The collection of the post-Holocaust, cold war, cyber-era philosophy, and ethical wisdom gathered along a four-decade journey. A discussion of universal meaning and basic consciousness. Poems rejoicing in natural harmonious existence; Honoring ancient wisdom and striving for perpetual progress and advancement. A gift from one of the original builders of the Internet. He brings the lifelong inspiration found in such great works like Jane English and Gia-Fu Feng's volume of Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching in his first volume of poetry.

Conflict Contradiction And Contrarian Elements In Moral Development And Education written by Larry Nucci and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-01-15 with Education categories.

The premise of this book is that individuals and societies have an inexorable urge to morally develop by challenging the assumptions of the previous generation in terms of what is right and wrong. The focus is on the nature and functional value of conflicts and challenges to the dominant moral and social values framework. Through this analysis, individuals develop moral character through conflict with their local authority figures, including parents. The moral structure of societies evolves through intergenerational challenges to and contradictions with the dominant social order. The book is divided into three parts to help frame this discussion: *Part I directly takes up the issue of resistance as it occurs at a cultural level, and the implications of such resistance for moral education and socialization. *Part II explores the normative forms of adolescent resistance and contrarian behavior that vex parents and teachers alike. *Part III brings back the issue of societal structure and culture to illustrate how negative features of society--such as racial discrimination and economic disparity--can feed into the construction of negative moral identity in youth posing challenges to moral education. Taken together, this collection presents a rich counterpoint to the pictures of moral growth as the progressive sophistication of moral reasoning or the gradual accretion of moral virtues and cultural values. It will benefit those in developmental, social, and cognitive psychology, as well as sociology, political science, and education.

On Becoming Responsible written by Michael S. Pritchard and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991 with History categories.

Pritchard provides a deliberate and convincing argument for a starting point for the discussion of moral development, on in which self regard and empathy provide equally essential groundings for individual morality. Drawing essential elements from the work of Reid, Strawson, Rawls, Kohlberg, and Gilligan, he builds a comprehensive framework for tracing moral development from childhood--one that allows human morality to be grounded in both reason and emotion and that recognizes the importance to morality of justice and rights as well as caring and responsibility.

Despite often simplistic, black-and-white portrayals of good and evil, children and adolescents face complicated moral issues that can raise more questions than answers. Becoming aware of what constitutes morality is only the first step in determining a course of action, identifying and avoiding problems, and building communities that nurture morality. Young people learn to define and respond to moral dilemmas by interacting with and observing numerous sources. They acquire knowledge from family members, teachers, church leaders, peers, and members of neighborhood organizations. Raising themes of cultural pluralism, responsibility, complexity, affectivity, and practicality, Nurturing Morality addresses such issues as: - Definitions of morality that link past and current debates, enabling a more thorough understanding of moral functioning. - Personal responsibilities and impediments to moral functioning. - How societal structures can facilitate or inhibit moral agency and development. - The importance of acknowledging the common good as well as individual accomplishments. - Nurturing morality through wisdom. Drawing from a wide range of independent research programs, Nurturing Morality makes clear that most forms of human interaction are laden with moral content. It highlights thorny and complex moral questions that cannot be resolved by simple adherence to moral rules. And on the basis of empirically grounded findings, contributors to this volume provide recommendations for how adults can offer valuable guidance to young people learning to negotiate life in a global society. For clinicians, researchers, and students, Nurturing Morality provides much-needed insight and advice on young people’s moral development.
