Inhaltsangabe:Bedienungsfreundlichkeit (Usability) zählt heute zu einem der wichtigsten Qualitätskriterien und somit auch zu einem wesentlichen Erfolgsfaktor eines Produktes. Im Mittelpunkt steht der eigentliche Anwender eines Systems. In diesem Zusammenhang ist es wichtig, dass auch die Meinungen und Vorschläge der Anwender berücksichtigt werden. Die dazu nötigen Daten können am besten in Form eines empirischen Usability-Tests gewonnen werden. Diese Diplomarbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Durchführung und Auswertung eines empirischen Web-Usability Tests. Eingangs wird der Begriff Usability näher erläutert. Ebenso werden verschiedene Methoden zur Messung von Usability, speziell im World-Wide-Web, vorgestellt. Ein weiteres Kapitel beschäftigt sich mit grundlegenden Erkenntnissen zur Gestaltung von Webseiten. Hierbei wird auf die häufigsten Fehler im Webdesign näher eingegangen. Im praxisorientierten Teil der Diplomarbeit werden anhand von zwei ausgewählten Methoden 15 verschiedene Webseiten auf ihre Benutzbarkeit getestet. Die erste Methode besteht aus einer Checkliste. Als zweite Methode wird Scenario-Based-Testing angewendet. Bei den getesteten Webseiten handelt es sich um Seiten von Banken, Versicherungen und Zeitungen. Mittels eigens ausgewählter und auf die Seiten abgestimmter Tasks (Aufgaben) werden die einzelnen Seiten auf empirische Weise getestet. Zu diesem Zweck testeten verschiedene Probanden die Webseiten in einer laborähnlichen Umgebung. Die Personen repräsentieren einen Querschnitt der typischen Internetbenutzer im europäischen Raum. Anhand der Auswertungen ist sehr schön zu sehen, welche Usabilityfehler beim Webdesign gemacht werden. Die dabei gewonnen Erkenntnisse können dann bei einem möglichen Redesign der Seiten vermieden werden. Diese Vorgehensweise entspricht einem iterativen Prozess bei dem es darum geht die Webseiten laufend zu verbessern und anschließend wieder zu testen, um den Ansprüchen der eigentlichen Benutzer gerecht zu werden. Interessant ist auch die Feststellung, dass sich in manchen Bereichen die Meinungen und Vorlieben der eigentlichen Benutzer nicht unbedingt mit den Vorstellungen der Designer und Usabilityexperten decken müssen. Hier zeigt sich immer wieder, dass es von großer Bedeutung ist, die eigentlichen Endbenutzer in den Designprozess mit einzubeziehen um gute und wettbewerbsfähige Webseiten entwerfen zu können. Sei es nun auf dem voraus fahrenden LKW, in den Spots vor dem Kinofilm oder in Annoncen. Doch dies reicht heutzutage nicht mehr aus, denn zu viele Unternehmen sind inzwischen im World Wide Web vertreten. Nur durch die Angabe der WWW-Adresse ist kein Abheben von der Konkurrenz mehr möglich. Zudem werden auch die Benutzer der Websites immer anspruchsvoller. Allerdings weisen immer noch viele Websites schwerwiegende Mängel bezüglich der Bedienerfreundlichkeit auf und missachten etliche Konventionen, die für einen Auftritt im Web als Standard gelten sollten. Doch schwer oder umständlich zu benutzende Websites können bei Unternehmen unter Umständen Umsatzeinbußen in Milliardenhöhe verursachen. Warum auf einer Seite verweilen, die unübersichtlich aufgebaut, zu langsam ist oder nicht auf die Bedürfnisse der Besucher abgestimmt wurde? Meist sind nicht abgeschlossene Transaktionen oder die Abwanderung zur Konkurrenz die Folge schlechter Website-Usability. Somit sollte neben der Sicherheit und der Preisgestaltung die Bedienerfreundlichkeit zu einem Schlüsselkriterium einer erfolgreichen Website werden. Was nun einen guten, leicht zu benutzenden Web-Auftritt ausmacht, ist eine Frage, die sich nicht so ohne Weiteres beantworten lässt. Denn nicht alles funktioniert auf jeder Website gleich gut. Einer der wichtigsten Gründe hierfür liegt bei den Benutzern der Website. Wie in der realen Welt hat auch im World Wide Web jedes Produkt seine eigene Zielgruppe. Nur mit dem Unterschied, dass in diesem Fall die Website das Produkt ist. Allerdings sind viele Web-Auftritte nicht optimal auf die anvisierte Zielgruppe zugeschnitten. Denn nicht der Designer, sondern die Benutzer der Website müssen später mit den Seiten zurechtkommen. Somit wird der Benutzer in ein völlig neues Licht gerückt. Dies hat zur Folge, dass die Schnittstelle zwischen dem Menschen (als Website-Besucher) und der Maschine (als Web-Auftritt) so gut wie möglich aufeinander abgestimmt sein sollte. Um Produkte wirklich benutzerfreundlich zu machen, muss Usability schon von Anfang an als zentrale Eigenschaft des Produktes mit geplant und mit entsprechenden Methoden vorangetrieben werden.
