Penelitian dengan judul "Uslûb Al-Qur'ân Dalam Pengungkapan Kiamat: Kajian Hadzf al-Fâ‘il pada Ayat-Ayat Kiamat di dalam Al-Qur'ân" dilatar belakangi oleh keajegan ayat-ayat Al-Qur'ân saat pertama diturunkan di Makkah. Ayat-ayat makiyyah lebih puitis, berirama, singkat, dan bersaja' dibanding madaniyyah. Konten ayat makiyyah banyak menceritakan bukti kekuasaan Allah dari alam semesta dan menjelaskan hal-hal yang sangat menakutkan seperti gambaran kehancuran alam semesta saat kiamat tiba. Tentu, karakteristik ayat-ayat seperti ini dilatarbelakangi oleh bangsa Arab Makkah yang umumnya pakar bahasa Arab tidak percaya dengan hari kiamat. Karenanya ayat-ayat kiamat sangat cocok dijadikan sebuah kajian lebih detail lagi seperti penelitian tentang penyebab ayat-ayat tersebut berstruktur singkat dengan pola yang sama yaitu pola singkat menggunakan gaya elipsis (îjâz al-hadzf). Buku ini adalah penelitian tentang uslûb bahasa Al-Qur'ân pada ayat-ayat yang khusus menjelaskan peristiwa kiamat atau ayat-ayat tentang kehancuran alam semesta. Pokok permasalahannya adalah study elipsis unsur subjek (hadzf al-fâ‘il) pada kata kerja yang terdapat dalam ayat-ayat tersebut. Masalah ini diteliti dengan pendekatan linguistik, pendekatan ilmu retorik (balagah), teori nuzûl Al-Qur'ân (ilmu makiyyah wa madaniyyah) serta dibahas dengan metode kualitatif menggunakan analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ayat-ayat yang membahas peristiwa kiamat menggunakan tiga macam konsep gaya hadzf al-fâ‘il. Pertama penjelasan faktor utama kehancuran alam semesta dimulai dengan kehancuran matahari seperti pada ayat makiyah pertama dari surat at-Takwîr (إذا الشمس كورت) menggunakan gaya hadzf al-fâ‘il berpola majhûl untuk tujuan menarik perhatian terhadap peristiwa tanpa harus mengetahui pelaku sesungguhnya. Ayat ini seakan menarik perhatian lawan tutur bahwa peristiwa tersebut adalah peristiwa maha dahsyat yang sangat menakutkan, yang akan menjadi penyebab utama kehancuran benda-denda angkasa lainnya. Kedua berpola muthâwa‘ah seperti ayat kedua ( وإذا النجوم انكدرت) untuk menjelaskan dampak dari faktor utama seperti penjelasan ayat pertama dan menjelaskan peristiwa terjadi secara mekanik oleh sebab hukum alam atau faktor alam lainnya, sehingga sejalan dengan pola gaya yang pertama. Sebab itu ayat kedua ini tidak berbentuk majhûl (وإذا النجوم كدرت) seperti ayat pertama. Terakhir, yang ketiga menggunakan pola majâz al-‘aqli seperti yang terdapat pada potongan ayat (فإذا برق البصر). Majaz ini berfungsi untuk memberikan makna predikatif yang nyata sebagai penegasan sebuah peristiwa, bahwa kiamat itu benar-benar akan terjadi. Sehingga memberikan keyakinan pada kaum musyrikin yang ingkar terhadap kebenaran peristiwa kiamat.

Imam Jalal-al-Din al-Suyuti (849-911 AH / 1445-1505 AD) was born, lived, and was buried in Cairo.
