Postmodern Theory And Biblical Theology written by Brian D. Ingraffia and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-12-07 with Literary Criticism categories.

This book examines the relationship between postmodernism and Christianity. Postmodernism claims Christianity is ripe for dismantling. Professor Ingraffia argues against the version of Christianity constructed by Nietzsche, Heidegger and Derrida. Attempts to reconcile contemporary critical theory with biblical theology ignore Christianity's distinct identity. Christianity was, he argues, an unacknowledged influence on Nietzsche, Heidegger, Derrida, and much of postmodernism, thereby demonstrating the priority of the Judaeo-Christian tradition over attempts to displace it.

This book explores the relationship between postmodernism and Christianity. Whereas deconstructionists claim all religious discourses can be radically undermined, Ingraffia argues that the version of Christianity constructed by Nietzsche, Heidegger and especially Derrida ignores Christianity's unique ontological status. This truth, Ingraffia claims, is an unacknowledged influence on leading postmodernist thinkers, thereby demonstrating the priority of the Judaeo-Christian tradition over secular attempts to displace it.

Postmodernism And The Ethics Of Theological Knowledge written by Justin Thacker and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-08 with Religion categories.

This book establishes the necessary integration of theological knowledge with theological ethics. It does this as a response to the postmodern critique of Christianity, as exemplified in Rorty and Lyotard. They argue that any claim to know God is necessarily tyrannical. Contemporary responses to such postmodern thinking often fail to address adequately the ethical critique that is made. This book redresses that balance by suggesting that our knowedge of God and love of the Other are so intimately connected that we cannot have one without the other. In the absence of love, then, we simply do not know God. Justin Thacker proposes that an effective theological response to postmodernity must address both knowledge and ethics in an integrated fashion as presented in this book.

Hermeneutics At The Crossroads written by Kevin J. Vanhoozer and has been published by Indiana University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-06-15 with Philosophy categories.

In this multi-faceted volume, Christian and other religiously committed theorists find themselves at an uneasy point in history -- between premodernity, modernity, and postmodernity -- where disciplines and methods, cultural and linguistic traditions, and religious commitments tangle and cross. Here, leading theorists explore the state of the art of the contemporary hermeneutical terrain. As they address the work of Gadamer, Ricoeur, and Derrida, the essays collected in this wide-ranging work engage key themes in philosophical hermeneutics, hermeneutics and religion, hermeneutics and the other arts, hermeneutics and literature, and hermeneutics and ethics. Readers will find lively exchanges and reflections that meet the intellectual and philosophical challenges posed by hermeneutics at the crossroads. Contributors are Bruce Ellis Benson, Christina Bieber Lake, John D. Caputo, Eduardo J. Echeverria, Benne Faber, Norman Lillegard, Roger Lundin, Brian McCrea, James K. A. Smith, Michael VanderWeele, Kevin Vanhoozer, and Nicholas Wolterstorff.

According to Bruce Ashford and Craig Bartholomew, one of the best sources for regaining a robust, biblical doctrine of creation is the recovery of Dutch neo-Calvinism. Tracing historical treatments and exploring theological themes, Ashford and Bartholomew develop the Kuyperian tradition's rich resources on creation for systematic theology and the life of the church today.

The purpose of this book is to help postmodern Westerners understand what the Bible has to say about wealth and possessions, its acquisition and protection, deprivation and slavery, corruption and hedonism, and even relations between management and labor. Focusing on Torah (the Pentateuch), it interprets this "great text" against other "great texts" in its literary-historical environment, including some epic poems from Mesopotamia, some Jewish texts from Syro-Palestine, and some Nazarene parables from the Greek New Testament.

Hope In Barth S Eschatology written by John C. McDowell and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-22 with Religion categories.

This title was first published in 2000. Hope in Barth's Eschatology presents a critical investigation and survey of Karl Barth's writings, particularly his Church Dogmatics IV.3, in order to locate the character and nature of 'hope' within Barth's eschatology. Arguing that Barth, with his form of hope that refuses to shy away from the dark themes of the 'tragic vision', could be seen to undermine certain tragic sensibilities necessary for a healthy account of hope, John McDowell locates Barth within the context of larger traditions of theological thinking, and influential accounts of Christian hope, examining the work of Steiner, MacKinnon, Pannenberg, Rahner, Moltmanm and others. Addressing the relative neglect that Barth commentators have paid to eschatological themes, McDowell maintains that to miss what Barth is doing in his eschatology, is to seriously misunderstand Barth's broader theological sense. This book offers a significant contribution to the ongoing task of understanding Barth's theology whilst developing a way of reading hope and eschatology that, ultimately, places some critical questions at Barth's door.
