Circulatory conditions are involved both in the oncologic disease itself and in its treatment, with a direct impact on therapeutic planning for patients. At the same time, it goes without saying that cancer and its treatment affect the circulatory system, be it arterial, venous or lymphatic. This book explores the interface between vascular surgery and the various clinical and surgical oncological specialties, highlighting which types of neoplasm are most common and focusing on those that more frequently cause or are influenced by vascular diseases. The diagnostic procedures for these tumors and the most suitable types of treatment are also discussed. The content is divided into three sections: I – Surgical Oncology, II – Clinical Oncology and Oncohematology, and III – Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. The first section presents the most common types of tumor in each surgical oncology specialty, and the most frequent tumors associated with vascular complications. The diagnosis, staging, prognosis and oncological treatments are discussed, while associated vascular complications, such as vascular invasion, venous thrombosis, and arterial thrombosis, are described. The second section focuses on general aspects of Clinical Oncology and Oncohematology in addition to the most frequent vascular complications related to solid and hematological cancers and its treatment (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, bone marrow transplantation). The third section includes a more detailed approach to vascular events and diseases commonly found in cancer patients, in addition to technical discussions regarding vascular reconstructions associated with tumor resection, vascular access, among other topics. At the end of each chapter, the editors comment and highlight the most important challenges for vascular surgeons who dedicate their lives to treating cancer patients. Given its scope, the book offers a valuable resource for medical specialists and professionals in training in the fields of vascular surgery and angiology, clinical oncology, oncohematology and surgical oncology.

Surgery alone cures more than 60% of those patients whose cancer are amenable to curative treatment. Surgical oncology is not universally accepted as a unified discipline worldwide. There are many reasons for this situation, including the drive to anatomic site specialization, but also the need to provide comprehensive 'general' surgical provision to more isolated and rural communities. Textbook of Surgical Oncology, written by a highly acclaimed list of international authors, comprehensively covers the role of the surgical oncologist in the management of patients with solid tumors. This book provides a state of the art review of cancer surgery for senior residents approaching certification at the completion of their training as well as providing an up to date reference work for established clinicians in their day to day practice, including those in general surgery, surgical oncology, urologists, gynecologists, thoracic, neurosurgical, radiation oncologist and medical oncologists.

This book introduces oncoplastic surgery as an interdisciplinary branch of oncological surgery that integrates theories and technologies in oncological surgery, plastic surgery and microsurgery with characteristics of planned radical resection of tumors and one-stage repair and reconstruction of surgical defects on the basis of multidisciplinary treatment (MDT) of tumors. Consisting of 23 chapters, the book covers a range of surgical topics related to oncoplastic surgery in clinical disciplines, with a focus on oncology surgery, plastic surgery, microsurgery, vascular surgery, otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, neurosurgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, breast surgery, urinary surgery, gynecologic oncology, bone surgery, thoracic surgery and abdominal surgery. In most of the surgical cases oncology surgery is combined with plastic surgery. The book summarizes the basic theories and clinical experiences in oncoplastic surgery, focusing on repair and aesthetic reconstruction after tumor removal, which increases patients’ survival rate and significantly improves their quality of life. It is a valuable reference resource for tumor surgeons, plastic surgeons, head and neck surgeons, breast surgeons as well as surgeons in other relevant fields.

This atlas presents a collection of richly illustrated teaching cases. It covers the fundamentals of orthopedic oncology complemented with relevant aspects that are demonstrated using individual cases. In a specialty that deals with a relatively smaller number of cases compared to tumors of other systems, this atlas prepares readers for clinical practice by combining a problem-based learning (PBL) approach, which lies on the continuum between structured and guided learning, with theory and practical insights. The book is divided into sections, arranged according to anatomical regions and the reconstruction type. Each section focuses on a specific anatomical region, and each case presentation includes the basic clinical history, basic principles, preoperative, perioperative and radiographic images, a pitfall list, treatment strategy, technical pearls, outcomes and complications. For each region the authors discuss both the biological and non-biological reconstruction techniques. The book is designed to actively involve the reader, making it an invaluable tool for all orthopedic surgeons confronted with oncologic surgery. The book is intended for trainees in orthopedics, orthopedic oncology fellows as well as practicing consultants.

Peripheral Vascular Surgery written by Martin Birnstingl and has been published by Butterworth-Heinemann this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-22 with Medical categories.

Peripheral Vascular Surgery aims to provide an updated and authoritative introduction to peripheral vascular surgery. Most arterial and venous diseases appear to be mainly the result, directly or indirectly, of mural deposition of solid material within a rapidly moving stream of blood. The vascular surgeon must therefore have a working knowledge of blood platelet interactions and probable mechanisms of thrombosis. He must also understand both the value and the limitations of present methods of blood flow measurement. This book provides an updated description of these complexities and presents essential basic knowledge that will prove valuable to surgeons and researchers working in this field. This text will be useful for post graduate surgeons, as well as for those in need of a reference useful for doctors in related fields such as general medicine and cardio-thoracic and orthopedic surgery.
