Heute ist das Wort in vielen Zusammenhängen zu einer Floskel verkommen, die oft nur beiläufig hingeworfen, ja sogar ironisch verwendet wird, aber dennoch meist positiv konnotiert ist. Aber wie ver-hält sich das in Texten aus Mittelalter und Früher Neuzeit? Welcher Begriff des Wun-derbaren kommt hier zum Tragen? Wie werden wunderbare Ereignisse in der Literatur dargestellt? Ist der Begriff positiv oder negativ belegt - oder ist vielleicht sogar beides möglich? Um diese Fragen beantworten zu können, untersuche ich die Darstellung des Wunderba-ren exemplarisch an zwei Texten: Gottfried von Straßburgs "Tristan" (um 1210) und Johann Hartliebs "Alexanderroman" (um 1450). Obwohl die Texte in Bezug auf Zeit und Ort nicht übereinstimmen -Cornwall und der Orient liegen zugegebenermaßen nicht direkt nebeneinander, und abgesehen davon entstand der Alexanderroman immerhin über 200 Jahre nach dem "Tristan"- halte ich einen Vergleich für möglich, da die Thematik sich nicht unähnlich ist und in beiden Texten ein wahrlich außergewöhnlicher Held im Vordergrund steht. Ob es auch ein wunderbarer Held ist, ist ebenfalls eine der Untersuchungsfragen dieser Arbeit. Im Hauptteil beschäftige ich mich zunächst kurz mit einer Definition des Wunderbaren, um vorab zu klären, welche Dimensionen dieser vielschichtige Begriff beinhaltet. Da-nach untersuche ich für beide Texte die Darstellung wunderbarer Orte und Wesen, reli-giöser Wunder und Alexanders und Tristans selbst. Eine genauere Untersuchung der Wunder-Thematik in verschiedenen Epochen könnte sich an diese Arbeit anschließen, die mir indes nicht den nötigen Rahmen dafür bietet.
