The Reformer Martin Luther is the source of endless fascination and dispute. Not only his antagonists but also his supporters have created a host of representations of his thought. On the one hand, Catholic and other similar voices have accused Luther of being the major agent in the birth of modern secularism. On the other hand, Lutherans themselves are divided on the meaning of Reformation. In view of all these interpretations and dismissals of Luther and the Lutheran Reformation, it requires a certain boldness to claim that Luther's theology is intellectually fascinating and contains exceptional resources. This is precisely what the present volume claims. The studies collected in this volume aim at showing in which sense Luther remains a fully Catholic and genuinely Augustinian theologian who is not so much a forerunner of problematic modernity as a representative of classical Christianity. At the same time, Luther's theology contains ideas that can be made fruitful in dialogue with currents like communitarianism or Radical Orthodoxy. The volume consists of articles written by scholars affiliated with the project known as "the New Finnish Interpretation of Luther." Was ist ein ökumenischer Gottesdienst? Aus welchen Gründen können manche Gottesdienste von Christen verschiedener Konfessionen gemeinsam verantwortet werden, andere, meist »sakramentale« Gottesdienste jedoch nicht? Warum gibt es vielerorts ökumenische Gottesdienste, mancherorts aber nur wenige? Ist der ökumenische Gottesdienst etwas anderes als der katholische, und der wieder etwas anderes als der evangelische Gottesdienst? Jeder Gottesdienst hat aber irgendwie mit Ökumene zu tun. Die Hauptfragestellung des Buches kreist im Kern um die Frage, inwiefern jeder Gottesdienst ökumenisch ist. Und umgekehrt: Inwiefern ist Ökumene (zumindest im christlich-kirchlichen Sinn) immer auch gottesdienstlich verfasst?Florian Ihsen stellt theologisch begründet den Bezug eines jeden Gottesdienstes auf die Ökumene bzw. auf die Einheit der zwar konfessionell getrennten und doch auch einen Kirche Jesu Christi dar. Der Hinweis auf die Ökumene und die anzustrebende, gegenwärtig nur gebrochen erkennbare Kircheneinheit kann nicht als nachträgliche gelegentliche Zutat des Gottesdienstes verstanden werden, sondern als Grunddimension eines jeden liturgischen Vollzugs. Der Gottesdienst ist nicht die nachträglich beliebig-subjektive Gestaltung dessen, was der einzelne Christ, die Gemeinde oder die Kirche zuvor verstanden hat oder verstanden zu haben meint. Der Gottesdienst in seinen Vollzügen und Strukturen gibt selbst zu verstehen, was er ist. Abschließend wird ein allgemeiner theologischer Liturgiebegriff (vergleichbar dem Projekt einer allgemeinen Sakramentenlehre) versucht, der die liturgisch-theologischen Reflexionen zu systematisieren versucht und nochmals abschließend bestätigt und differenziert, dass und inwiefern die Liturgie dem Verständnis ihrer Vollzüge zufolge als theologia und ecclesiologia prima gelten kann.
