Ami Ayalon, a peace campaigner and member of the Knesset, was asked if he stood by his oft-quoted remark that the Palestinians and the Israelis hate each other. "I cannot say that I hate Palestinians, but I think, as a nation, as a society, yes, most Israelis hate Palestinians and most Palestinians hate Israelis...I had a very interesting meeting in London during the intifada. A Palestinian friend approached me [and said] 'Ami, we won. We Palestinians won.'... I asked him, 'Are you crazy? What do you mean "We won"? You are losing so many people ... and we are losing so many people. What is the whole essence of victory?' He said, 'Ami you don't understand us. Victory for us is to see you suffer. This is all we want. Finally, after so many years, we are not the only ones who suffer in the Middle East.'"... It was a double-edged sword. Ayalon added, "In a way it is the same for us. We suffer, we lost many people, and [at] a certain point we were looking for revenge." Book jacket.

Victory through Suffering talks about the ups and downs that believers face while traveling and navigating their daily lives, as well as teaching and leading others to Christ. During difficult times, one learns to reflect on oneself very deeply as well as how to go through rough times. Difficult times enable us to do God's will to love ourselves and others as well as to lean on his word to become stronger. When we are victorious, we can overcome any circumstances, as the Bible tells us that we are overcomers (1 John 5:4-5). We suffer when we resist the will of God, and we prevail when we obey his will.

We know that violence breeds violence. We need look no further than the wars in the western Balkans, the genocide in Rwanda, or the ongoing crisis in Israel and Palestine. But we don’t know how to deal with the messy moral and political quandaries that result when victims become perpetrators. When the line between guilt and innocence wavers and we are confronted by the suffering of the victim who turns to violence, judgment may give way to moral relativism or liberal tolerance, compassion to a pity that denies culpability. This is the point of departure in The Violence of Victimhood and the impetus for its call for renewed considerations of responsibility, judgment, compassion, and nonviolent politics. To address her provocative questions, Diane Enns draws on an unusually wide-ranging cast of characters from the fields of feminism, philosophy, peacebuilding, political theory, and psychoanalysis. In the process, she makes an original contribution to each, enriching discussions that are otherwise constricted by disciplinary boundaries and an arid distinction between theory and practice.

Victory for a butterfly happens when the butterfly pollinates a plant. In the same way, victory for the Christian is when we do what Jesus Christ has saved us for. That may mean a variety of things, from preaching to teaching to singing in the choir or writing a book. If we as believers sit on our gifts, we have spiritually failed our God. As we look at the final installment of the Successful Suffering series, we must be prepared to live out that victorious Christian life. In this book are examples of the many who have gone before us and achieved victory in their lives. It might be that the Lord called you to endure an illness or fight a difficult battle, but regardless of what He wants you to do, know that you have already been guaranteed victory by the blood of Christ. In suffering, you and I need to know our God, and to study how He has shown up in the lives of saints. After you know your God, it's time to take the knowledge of your Savior and move ahead. The Lord will give very specific instructions. All He wants to know is if you and I will obey. Get ready to be empowered and encouraged by the way the Lord has worked in the lives of saints before us, because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Can Israelis and Palestinians end their long conflict? The shocking violence of current events undermines hope, as does the long history of peace deals sabotaged by extremists on both sides. In this compelling and timely book, the eminent moral philosopher Jonathan Glover argues that one vital step towards progress is to better understand the disturbing psychology of the cycle of violence. Glover explores the psychological flaws that entrap both sides: the urge to respond to wounds or humiliation with backlash; political or religious beliefs held with a rigidity that excludes compromise; and people’s identity being shaped by the conflict in ways that make it harder to imagine or even desire alternatives. Drawing on the history of comparable conflicts that eased over time, Glover proposes some ways to gradually weaken the grip of this psychology. Completed as casualties mounted in the latest political and humanitarian crisis, Israelis and Palestinians is essential reading for anyone concerned by the ongoing violence in the Middle East.

The companion to the Oscar-nominated documentary, an unparalleled look inside Israel’s security establishment. Imagine the following situation: You have just received a tip that six suicide bombers are making their way into the heart of Israel’s major cities, each one to a different city, to set off an explosion in the most crowded centers of population. How far would you go to stop the attack? How would you sleep at night if you failed and one of the six terrorists reached his target and murdered dozens of innocent people? What would you do the next morning to extract your country from this murderous vicious cycle? For six former heads of the Shin Bet (Israel’s internal security service), these were not hypothetical questions, but the realities and tormenting way of life for decades. In The Gatekeepers, which is based on extensive and lengthy interviews conducted to produce the award-winning film of the same name, six former heads of the Shin Bet speak with unprecedented candor on how they handled the toughest and tensest moments of their lives; on matters of life and death; on the missions they were involved in; on the historic opportunities for a better future that were missed by the leaders under whom they served, and the scars each of them bears until this very day. The Gatekeepers is a piercing and cruel self-examination of Israel’s security establishment and of a nation that has lived by its sword for so many years but has lost its faith in its ability to lay it down. Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Arcade imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in history--books about World War II, the Third Reich, Hitler and his henchmen, the JFK assassination, conspiracies, the American Civil War, the American Revolution, gladiators, Vikings, ancient Rome, medieval times, the old West, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.

This book talks about having live and having it more abundantly, though the shed blood of Jesus on the cross at Calvary. When Jesus rose from the grave early one Sunday morning we too will rise up out of our dead circumstances. Jesus rose with all power in His hands. We too possess love, power and a sound mind. Get the book and be blessed. Jesus' resurrection is greater than sin and death, it is sin's inevitable result of human failure. So many Christians today are dying because they live in sin and do not understand how Jesus' death gave them life. There is purpose is pain. Hurting people, hurt people and suffering is painful, no one likes to suffer. There's nothing to be ashamed of because you were or are being persecuted by the enemy. Don't take it personal, it's the devil's job. But, it may seem that our outward man is perishing but it's only because God is strengthening us inwardly. The old self dies and a new creature emerges. We no longer think the way we used to think, or act the way we used to act, or talk the way we used to talk. Romans 6:4 NIV says "we were buried with Jesus through baptisms into death in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life." And now sin's power is broken, we are no longer bound by the law. We belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed us from the power of sin that leads to death.
