The search for general laws and regularities in Translation Studies gained new momentum in the 1990s when Baker (1993) promoted the use of large electronic corpora as research tools for exploring the linguistic features that render the language of translation different from the language of non-translated texts. By comparing a corpus of translated and non-translated English texts, Baker and her research team put forward the hypothesis that translated texts are characterized by some “universal features”, namely simplification, explicitation, normalization and levelling-out. The purpose of this study is to test whether simplification, explicitation and normalization apply to Italian translations of children’s books. In order to achieve this aim, a comparable corpus of translated and non-translated works of classic fiction for children has been collected and analysed using Corpus Linguistics tools and methodologies. The results show that, in the translational subcorpus, simplification, explicitation and normalization processes do not prevail over the non-translational one. Therefore, it is suggested that the status of translated children’s literature in the Italian literary “polysystem” (Even-Zohar, 1979, 1990) and, from a general viewpoint, all the cultural, historical and social conditions that influence translators’ activities, determine translation choices that can also tend towards processes different from those proposed by Baker.

Una rilettura dell’opera crepuscolare di Corrado Govoni (1903-1958) attraverso le ultime due generazioni di autori emiliani, con un’attenzione particolare all’atmosfera ferrarese dal primo Novecento a oggi, si è imposta nello studio di Matteo Bianchi nel momento in cui la cifra elegiaca e l’abbassamento dei toni e del registro lessicale si sono rivelati tratti somatici imprescindibili; con la premessa che la vena intimista di stampo pascoliano sia pulsante lungo l’intera produzione lirica del poeta di Tamara – anche a detta sua – e sia sconfinata per mezzo delle descrizioni paesaggistiche nelle prose poetiche de La santa verde (1919), rendendo Govoni un punto di riferimento per le tendenze letterarie della provincia di Ferrara e di quelle limitrofe. Govoni subì l’esistenza e spesso ne fu travolto, ma i versi cominciarono a registrarlo con nitidezza dopo l’uccisione del figlio Aladino (1944) nelle Fosse Ardeatine per mano dei nazisti. Accadimento che gli fece ritrattare davanti allo specchio ogni cosa, persino quel suo minimo legame alla politica nazionale, rinnegando tutto e ritirandosi in definitiva dalla mondanità erudita mal sopportata. Allora recuperò in veste ancora malinconica, ma senza perdere l’entusiasmo di fondo per la scoperta, il mondo agreste che mai avevo smesso di mancargli. Se la curiosità lo aveva accomunato a Filippo de Pisis, il ritorno nei dintorni ferraresi lo aveva distanziato da coloro che avevano scelto di abbandonare “la musa pentagona” per porti più sicuri, così lo stesso de Pisis e Giorgio Bassani.

Le poesie tratte da Myricae si leggono solitamente per la prima volta alla scuola elementare: Pascoli è il poeta dell'onomatopea, della natura, delle cose, della famiglia, si dice, e la sintassi semplice e il lessico quotidiano si prestano a una lettura immediata. Ma, ben presto, si scopre che, sotto, c'è di più. Si va più a fondo e si apprezzano l'acuta autocoscienza stilistica del poeta, il labor limae nascosto sotto scelte apparentemente banali, il ruolo del fonosimbolismo, l'uso dell'analogia e il traboccare del dolore personale del poeta che assurge a segno del dolore universale della vita umana. Questa edizione apre al lettore che si faccia guidare dall'accurata introduzione di Pier Vincenzo Mengaldo un'ulteriore prospettiva sulle poesie ben note, da leggere non più come "frammenti" autonomi, ma come un romanzo, autobiografico e universale, alla sistemazione del quale Pascoli lavorò per vent'anni, rivedendo i testi presenti ed aggiungendone di nuovi, organizzandoli in sezioni fino a dare all'opera una struttura unitaria e strettamente interconnessa, e a trasformarla così in un'unica, grande allegoria.
