Hebron is an ancient city in the southern West Bank. It is the traditional burial place of the Biblical patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and their wives. This makes it a significant religious site for the Abrahamic religions. In 2017, the old town was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Cave of Machpelah or the Ibrahimi Mosque, Abraham's burial place and the main holy site in the city, is on the border between the Palestinian and Jewish sectors. Wink Travel Guides introduce you to the best world travel destinations, in a clear and concise way, illustrated by photos.

This book brings together, explores and expands socio-spatial affect, emotion and psychoanalytic drives in tourism for the first time. Affect is to be found in visceral intensities and resonances that circulate around and shape encounters between and amongst tourists, local tourism representatives and places. When affect manifests, it can ‘take shapes’ in the form of emotions such as fun, joy, fear, anger and the like. When it remains a visceral force of latent bodily responses, affect overlaps with drives as expounded in psychoanalysis. The aim of the title, therefore, is to explore how and in what ways affects, emotions and drives are felt and performed in tourism encounters in places of socio-political turmoil such as Jordan, Palestine/Israel, with a detour to Iraq. Affective Tourism is highly innovative as it offers a new way of theorising tourism encounters bringing together, critically examining and expanding three areas of scholarship: affective and emotional geographies, psychoanalytic geographies and dark tourism. It has relevance for tourism industries in places in the proximity of ongoing conflicts as it provides in-depth analyses of the interconnections between tourism, danger and conflict. Such understandings can lead to more socio-culturally and politically-sustainable approaches to planning, development and management of tourism. This ground breaking book will be of valuable reading for students and researchers from a number of fields such as tourism studies, geography, anthropology, sociology and Middle Eastern studies.

"Israel and the Palestinian nightmare" is not only a reliable reference book; it is a captivating description and review of the Arab-Israeli conflict. It offers an honest account of where Israel went wrong, covers facts relating to the origins of the nation of Israel and the profound effect that history has had upon contemporary events. The Arab-Israeli conflict is not a conflict over land nor is it rooted in ancient claims of two peoples to the same small piece of real estate in the Middle East; but rather it is a battle between Judaism and Islam. A battle the Christian world has been touched by but so far timidly involved with. If we understand how the conflict developed, we'll be better prepared to deal with events to come. The claim that a group of people, foreign to the land, wanted to impose their sovereignty through expropriation on another group of people that inhabited that land is nothing but a modern day invention of those who seek to destroy the young Jewish state. Millions of young adults are exposed to the heckling of modern day anti-Semites in almost every college campus and in many 'intellectual' circles; and the obvious bias and Israel-loathing is echoed by most of the international media outlets, rarely encountering opposition. Winston Churchill once said, "the truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is." Plenty of historical and archeological evidence proves Israel's historic roots and disproves every Arab claim to the land; and still most public and academic outlets claim that Israel's situation is a simple case of occupation of a foreign land. Ironically they are right. There is an unfair and unnecessary occupation of land but not by the Jews that returned to their homeland, but on the part of the Arab multitude who assumed a fake identity with the sole purpose of destroying the Jewish dream of the rebirth of Israel. "Israel and the Palestinian nightmare" answers some of the toughest questions regarding Israel and the Palestinian people. It takes the reader through an historical timeline that puts many issues into proper perspective. The author has tough words for both Israelis and the Arab world, and the book contains inspiring articles and commentaries by Middle East experts such as Yoram Ettinger, Phyllis Chesler, Paul Eidelberg; as well as thought-provoking observations written by Larry Miller, David Wilder and Shifra Hoffman among others. This book will clarify many of the misconceptions that exist regarding this conflict and it is essential reading for both Jew and gentile alike. "In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act." George Orwell

City Of Abraham written by Edward Platt and has been published by Pan Macmillan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-09-13 with Travel categories.

A journey through one of the world's most divided cities – Hebron, in the Israeli-occupied West Bank of Palestine, exploring the influence of the history, religion and myth on the country's tumultuous present. It begins with a hill called Tel Rumeida, the site of ancient Hebron, where the patriarch Abraham – father of the Jews and the Arabs – was supposed to have lived when he arrived in the Promised Land. In City of Abraham, Edward Platt meets the Palestinian residents of Tel Rumeida, and the messianic settlers who have made their homes in a block of flats that stands on stilts on an excavated corner of the site. He meets the archaeologists who have attempted to reconstruct the history of the hill. He meets the soldiers who serve in Hebron, and the intermediaries who try to keep the peace in the divided city. Through a mixture of travel writing, reportage and interviews, Platt tells the history of the Tel Rumeida hill and the city in which it stands, and explores the mythic roots of the struggle to control the land – illuminating the lives of the people at the heart of the most intractable conflict in the world.

Our Promised Land takes readers inside radical Israeli settlements to explore how they were formed, what the people in them believe, and their role in the Middle East today. Charles Selengut analyzes the emergence of the radical Israeli Messianic Zionist movement, which advocates Jewish settlement and sovereignty over the whole of biblical Israel as a religious obligation and as the means of world transformation. The movement has established scores of controversial settlements throughout the contested West Bank, bringing more than 300,000 Jews to the area. Messianic Zionism is a fundamentalist movement but wields considerable political power. Our Promised Land, which draws on years of research and interviews in these settlements, offers an intimate and nuanced look at Messianic Zionism, life in the settlements, connections with the worldwide Christian community, and the impact on the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. Selengut offers an in-depth exploration of a topic that is often mentioned in the headlines but little understood.

From having traveled the world, I pass onto you a piece of advice: travel as a pilgrim, not as a tourist. I define a pilgrim as a person who is a humble seeker and open to new experiences. And when a new experience does happen, a pilgrim accepts it, believes in it, and treasures it. Get out from behind your camera or cell phone. Utilize your sensessmell, touch, and feel the place. The world is not a museum. Embrace it all and expect the unexpected. Perhaps you too will be blessed with mystical experiences. However, no one has the ability to create these experiences; they are truly authentic. One cannot make them happen; either they happen or they dont.
