Diese bieten im Sinne neuartiger Produkte oder Prozesse die Möglichkeit zur Produktivitäts- und Wachstumssteigerung und erhöhen folglich die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit einer Volkswirtschaft. Ein entscheidender Faktor für die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung von Wachstum und Wohlstand ist also die Innovationsfähigkeit einer Volkswirtschaft. Eine Möglichkeit zur Klärung der Frage, wie die Innovationsfähigkeit eines Landes gefördert bzw. beeinflusst werden kann, ist die Analyse des nationalen Innovationssystems. Dabei spielen vor allem die institutionellen Rahmenbedingungen sowie die Kompetenzen und die Vernetzung der beteiligten Akteure eine entscheidende Rolle. Um ein genaueres Bild von dem Innovationssystem eines Landes zu bekommen, sollten möglichst alle für die nationale Innovationsfähigkeit relevanten Kriterien untersucht und analysiert werden. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird eine solche Analyse von nationalen Innovationssystemen durchgeführt und ein Vergleich zwischen ausgewählten Ländern Skandinaviens vorgenommen. Die Länderauswahl fällt auf das Königreich Schweden, das Königreich Norwegen und die Republik Island. Zu Beginn der Arbeit werden in Kapitel 2 verschiedene theoretische Sichtweisen auf nationale Innovationssysteme und deren Analyse dargestellt und anschließend eine für diese Arbeit gültige Definition festgelegt. Des Weiteren werden die Bestandteile eines Innovationssystems aufgezeigt und näher erläutert. Zum Abschluss dieses theoretischen Teils der Arbeit erfolgt eine Festlegung und Beschreibung der zu untersuchenden Kriterien für die später folgende Analyse von nationalen Innovationssystemen in Skandinavien. Im Hauptteil der Arbeit (Kapitel 3) erfolgt eine Analyse der nationalen Innovationssysteme der ausgewählten skandinavischen Nationen, welche in separaten Abschnitten behandelt werden. Dabei werden zu Beginn jeweils kurze Informationen zu den Ländern selbst gegeben und im Anschluss die beschriebenen Analysekriterien von nationalen Innovationssystemen untersucht. Abschließend wird eine Bewertung des jeweiligen nationalen Innovationssystems vorgenommen. Im letzten Abschnitt werden die untersuchten Nationen in Hinblick auf die untersuchten Kriterien und die Innovationsleistung miteinander verglichen und Gemeinsamkeiten sowie Unterschiede zwischen den nationalen Innovationssystemen herausgestellt.
