"Gott hat alle in den Ungehorsam eingeschlossen, um allen seine Barmherzigkeit zu erweisen", so die Aussage von Paulus in Röm 11,12. Sie berichtet, dass das göttliche Erbarmen die gesamte Menschheit umfasse. Zwar schliesst es Gottes Gericht ein, das sich den menschlichen Verfehlungen entgegenstellt, doch dessen Ziel besteht nicht in der Vernichtung des Übeltäters, sondern in der Vergebung seiner Schuld und der Erweckung zu neuem Leben. Was aber ist mit neutestamentlichen Texten, die eine gegenteilige Meinung zu vertreten scheinen? Heinz Külling geht diesen Texten im Lukas- und Matthäusevangelium, im 1. Petrusbrief und in der Offenbarung nach. Seine Untersuchung zeigt, dass auch diese Stellen auf ihre Weise bestätigen, dass die Menschheit nicht ihrem Untergang entgegengeht. Eine Zuversicht, die sich lohnt, auch in der gegenwärtigen Verkündigung unüberhörbar zu machen.
