Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2022 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Ältere Deutsche Literatur, Mediävistik, Note: 1,7, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der visuellen Wahrnehmung der typographischen Textgliederung, insbesondere wie sie den Leseprozess beeinflusst und unsere Leseerwartungen steuert. Der Fokus liegt auf dem Wandel vom Manuskript- zum Druckzeitalter, exemplarisch dargestellt an der „Melusine“ von Thüring von Ringoltingen. Dieser Text bietet ein einzigartiges Fenster in die Evolution der Seitengestaltung. Die Arbeit beginnt mit einer Einführung in die Schrift als Abbild der Sprache und deren Bedeutung für die typographische Gestaltung. Kapitel 2 gibt einen Überblick über das Spätmittelalter und seine Handschriftenkultur. Im 3. Kapitel wird die Geschichte und Darstellung der Melusine im Manuskriptzeitalter untersucht, wobei die Basler Melusine-Handschrift von 1471 als Hauptbeispiel dient. Kapitel 4 konzentriert sich auf den Übergang ins Druckzeitalter, beginnend mit dem ersten gedruckten Melusine von 1475. Hier werden Unterschiede in der Textpräsentation und die Entwicklung von Layoutkonventionen über einen Zeitraum von 100 Jahren beleuchtet. Die Arbeit schließt mit einem vergleichenden Fazit, das die Unterschiede und Entwicklungen in der Seitengestaltung hervorhebt. Unsere Art zu lesen, ebenso wie die uns heute geläufige Seitengestaltung, hat sich nur sehr langsam durchgesetzt, Grundformen heute gebräuchlicher Satzzeichen und Schriftarten, Traditionen des Layouts von Texten gehen bis ins Mittelalter zurück. Bereits spätmittelalterliche Handschriften und Inkunabeln weisen eine förmliche Nähe zueinander auf, so nehmen die ersten Drucker ganz selbstverständlich die ihnen bekannten Werke zum Vorbild. Gerade deshalb bietet die Zeit des Nebeneinanders spannende Einblicke in die Konkurrenz der Medien, in die Ausdifferenzierung eigener Formen und in die Entwicklung neuer Möglichkeiten der Drucktechniken. Die Melusine Thürings von Ringoltingen erweist sich deshalb durch ihre kontinuierliche Überlieferung als adäquat für Untersuchungen der Seitengestaltung der Handschriftenkultur, sowie zu möglichen Veränderungen der Seitengestaltung bei Eintritt der Texte in den Druck.
