Seit ungefähr zwei Jahrzehnten gibt es in der deutschen Kulturlandschaft, im literarischen und akademischen Betrieb eine zunehmende Sensibilisierung für den Beitrag von Schriftstellern und Schriftstellerinnen zur Gegenwartsliteratur, deren Muttersprache nicht, oder nicht nur, deutsch ist und die nach Deutschland immigriert oder Kinder bzw. Enkel von Immigranten sind. Dieser Band präsentiert eine Reihe von Aufsätzen zur zeitgenössischen transnationalen deutschsprachigen Literatur und Kultur. Neben Aufsätzen zu einzelnen Schriftstellern (Imran Ayata, Yadé Kara, Feridun Zaimoğlu, Rafik Schami, Terézia Mora, Libuše Moníková und Ilija Trojanow) werden auch begriffliche und thematische Fragen angesprochen. Unterteilt in die Sektionen Historisches, Begriffliche Fragen, Deutsch-türkische, Ost- und südosteuropäische und Deutsch-jüdische Literatur, sucht der Band der Vielfalt und Heterogenität der transkulturellen deutschsprachigen Literatur gerecht zu werden. Dabei richtet sich der Band sowohl an Fachkollegen, als auch an Studenten.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2017 im Fachbereich Französische Philologie - Literatur, Note: 1,0, Universität des Saarlandes, Veranstaltung: Kulturelle GrenzgängerInnen: Konvertiten und Transvestiten als Mittler zwischen den Kulturen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In der Gegenwartsliteratur zu Zeiten des Postkolonialismus und Postnationalismus finden sich zunehmend AutorInnen, deren Schreiben jenseits eines nationalen Literaturkanons zu verorten ist. Zu ihren Vertretern gehören sicherlich Emine Sevgi Özdamar und Leïla Sebbar. Die interkulturelle Literaturwissenschaft ist angesichts aktueller Debatten über Migration und Globalisierung sichtlich um Konzeptua- lisierungen dieser normwidrigen Literatur bemüht, wobei die unternommenen Kategorisierungsversuche deren Essenz meist nicht gerecht werden. Forschungstermini wie „Gastarbeiterliteratur“, „Exilliteratur“ oder „Migrationsliteratur“ haben in erster Linie eine systematisierende Funktion, verhelfen allerdings kaum zur ästhetischen Erfassung. Vielmehr eignet sich der Terminus der „transkulturellen Literatur“, insoweit dieser das Wesen dieser Literatur zu konkretisieren vermag. Von diesem Ansatz ausgehend befasst sich diese Arbeit zunächst mit dem Versuch der Kontextualisierung der özdamarschen und der sebbarschen Literatur, um zu verdeutlichen, inwiefern ihre Werke als „transkulturell“ zu verstehen sind. Im weiteren Verlauf widmet sich diese Arbeit der Vorstellung der Autorinnen, da der Zugang zu ihren Erzählungen maßgeblich über autobiographische Gesichtspunkte führt. Begleitet wird dieses Kapitel von einer Erläuterung im Hinblick auf die auktoriale Inszenierung der beiden Autorinnen auf der literarischen Bühne. Im darauffolgenden Kapitel sollen anhand ausgewählter Textpassagen die zentralen Motive „Sprache“ und „Grenzerfahrungen“ beiderseits in ihrem Facettenreichtum veranschaulicht und analysiert werden, um schließlich ein Fazit im Hinblick auf festgestellte Parallelen und Differenzen ziehen zu können.

Since the turn of the 21st century, countless literary endeavors by 'new Germans' have entered the spotlight of academic research. Yet 'minority writing', with its distinctive renegotiation of traditional concepts of cultural identity, is far from a recent phenomenon in German literature. A hundred years previously, the intense involvement of German-Jewish intellectuals in cultural and political discourses on Jewish identity put a clear stamp on German modernism. This book is the first to unfold literary parallels between these two riveting periods in German cultural history. Drawing on the philosophical oeuvre of Jean-Luc Nancy, a comparative reading of texts by, amongst others, Beer-Hofmann, Kermani, Özdamar, Roth, Schnitzler, and Zaimoglu examines a variety of literary approaches to the thorny issue of cultural identity, while developing an overarching perspective on the ‘politics of literature’.

Up until now, ‘migration literature’ has primarily been defined as ‘texts written by migrant authors’, a definition that has been discussed, criticised, and even rejected by critics and authors alike. Very rarely has ‘migration literature’ been understood as ‘literature on the topic of migration’, which is an approach this book adopts by presenting a comparative analysis of contemporary texts on experiences of migration. By focusing on specific themes and motifs in selected texts, this study suggests that migration literature is a sub-genre that exists in both various bodies of literature as well as various languages. This book analyses English and German texts by authors such as Monica Ali, Dimitré Dinev, Anna Kim, Timothy Mo, Preethi Nair, Caryl Phillips, Hamid Sadr, and Vladimir Vertlib, among others.

The third volume of the collected papers of the ICLA congress "The Many Languages of Comparative Literature" includes contributions that focus on the interplay between concepts of nation, national languages, and individual as well as collective identities. Because all literary communication happens within different kinds of power structures - linguistic, economic, political -, it often results in fascinating forms of hybridity. In the first of four thematic chapters, the papers investigate some of the ways in which discourses can establish modes of thinking, or how discourses are in turn controlled by active linguistic interventions, whether in the context of the patriarchy, war, colonialism, or political factions. The second thematic block is predominantly concerned with hybridity as an aspect of modern cultural identity, and the cultural and linguistic dimensions of domestic life and in society at large. Closely related, a third series of papers focuses on writers and texts analysed from the vantage points of exile and exophony, as well as theoretical contributions to issues of terminology and what it means to talk about transcultural phenomena. Finally, a group of papers sheds light on more overtly violent power structures, mechanisms of exclusion, Totalitarianism, torture, and censorship, but also resistance to these forms of oppression. In addition to these chapters, the volume also collects a number of thematically related group sections from the ICLA congress, preserving their original context.
