Es gibt dort eine große persönliche Freiheit und man kann unbesorgt in Frieden leben. Nach Abschluss seines Studiums realisiert er die seit langem geplante Auswanderung aus dem Iran in den Westen. Er ahnt jedoch nicht, dass auf ihn unzählige spannende, abwechslungsreiche, aber auch schauderhafte Ereignisse warten. Der ungewollte Besitz von Geheimdokumenten der iranischen Geheimpolizei „SAVAK“ und die atemberaubende Auseinandersetzung mit ihren Agenten bringen ihn in erhebliche Schwierigkeiten. Von orientalischen Träumen zur Tragödie im Westen beschreibt unterhaltsam verschiedene ineinander verschachtelte Episoden so anschaulich, als ob diese mit einer hochwertigen Kamera aufgenommen seien: Während sich das Buch langsam, gefühlvoll und intensiv auf die Handlung fokussiert, werden im Hintergrund die unterschiedlichen Mentalitäten und Weltanschauungen von Orientalen, Europäern und Amerikanern deutlich erkennbar. Schonungslos werden die Schwächen, aber auch Stärken der verschiedenen Gesellschaften eindrucksvoll aufgeführt. Es ist ein sehr spannendes, manchmal rührendes, immer mitreißendes Stück Zeitgeschichte.
