This thrilling account of the life of Simon Peter takes the reader on a journey from the beautiful tranquil setting of Lake Galilee to the debauchery and violence of ancient Rome. It traces the life of the one Jesus called “The Rock” from his escape from a condemned cell, through his years of service for Christ, to his bloody execution by Emperor Nero. John Hibbert has succeeded in exposing the heart and character of a man who betrayed his friend through cowardice, yet recovered to make amends and become a fearless and powerful foundation for the building of the universal church. You will experience the power of faith as he walks with his Lord on the stormy waves of the Galilee and weep with him in the back streets of Jerusalem. You will sink with him beneath the cold waters of suicidal despair, but feel the warmth of the subsequent forgiveness that he received from his Lord. Read this book and you will fall in love with a man who had a flawed character like the rest of us, but who rose above his weaknesses and failings to become a passionate fisher of the souls of men and the most influential name in church history.

When we read the Bible as a parable, as a series of object lessons told merely to prove a point, we miss something. When we treat the people within the Bible as mere "characters" in a story, we lose something incredibly important. Object lessons are clean and simple. People, on the other hand, are messy and complicated. When we look at the life of Simon Peter, we see one of the messiest people in the entire New Testament. Peter walked on water and sank into the waves. He proclaimed who Jesus was and completely missed the point. He pledged his undying devotion to Christ, and even drew a sword in defense of his Lord, and then he abandoned Jesus and denied him three times. Peter is also the rock on which Christ would build his church--the same church of which Paul says we are a part. So come. Walk with Peter. Fish with him. Follow a strange rabbi, though it might cost you everything. Walk on water, though you might sink. Go to Jerusalem, though death awaits you. Stand with Peter as God uses him to build his church, and watch that church grow.

The "Heavenly Citizens" series serves as a tool to help the Christian understand not only what the Bible teaches us, but also how to study the Bible. Explaining what the Bible teaches is like giving someone a fish to eat. Teaching him how to study the Bible is like teaching someone how to fish so he can feed himself. Both approaches are essential to developing spiritual maturity. "1 Peter" is the twenty-third volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. Apostle Peter begins with an observation to be seen on any day, in any age, in the life of any believer. The issue is "suffering" and the right worldview to take toward it. Peter points believers to their suffering, notes how Messiah Jesus went through all of the same suffering before them, and is there with them to lead them through their own suffering. Then Peter exhorts them to look past their suffering and look upward to eternity, where Messiah Jesus is preparing a place for them. When their time comes and they go to their eternal home, King Jesus will reward them for their suffering, and for their service to Him in doing the ministry to which He appoints them. Additionally, the Apostle Peter instructs the believers on how they are to live on earth. They are to be holy, even as Christ Jesus is holy. To be holy is defined by Peter by many practical applications in their daily living. One such application has to do with submission on every level. Anyone who has authority over the believer is to exercise that authority as God's Word instructs because their authority come from God. Those under authority are to submit to those over them, as doing so to King Jesus, the ultimate authority and wellspring of all authority. The approach for "James", and for every volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series, is to teach the student the meaning of Scripture. We also teach him or her how to study the Bible on his/her own. We do this in two ways: we provide a few rules by which to govern our Bible study, and we demonstrate by example how to study the Bible. Experience is an outstanding teacher. In our books we put into practice the rules for Bible study. By walking through the Bible with us, the reader experiences firsthand what our method of study is like. We believe the student will come out of our studies with both an understanding of the Bible and the ability to truthfully understand the Bible on his/her own. The path lies before you. Walk through the gate and join the journey with us! And may the blessings of the Lord Jesus Christ be yours in abundance. Keeping The Faith When Things Get Tough written by Jeff Doles and has been published by Walking Barefoot Ministries this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-11 with Religion categories.

KEEP THE FAITH, CHANGE THE WORLD! When times are hard, it can be very tempting to hold on to the world and let go of the faith. The apostle Peter certainly knew what that was like when he denied Jesus three times, mere hours after pledging unshakeable faithfulness. But with the reality of the resurrection and the power of the Holy Spirit, he learned how to do just the opposite ~ to keep the faith and change the world! In his letter to Jesus believers scattered abroad, Peter reveals not only how to keep the faith in difficult circumstances but also how to change the world by the new life that comes from Jesus ~ a life of loving, giving and serving. This book is a study of that letter. In it you will learn about: • The new birth, the new mind, and the new life believers have in Jesus • The new kind of people we are called to be in Him • The incorruptible Word by which we have come to know Him • The indestructible inheritance He has for us • What it means to be holy • What true freedom is and how it transforms relationships • How to walk in fervent love and find exuberant joy beyond words • How to arm yourself with the mind of Jesus • How to manifest the glory and dominion of Jesus • How to stand firmly against our true adversary... and more These are “bite-size” studies to help guide you through Peter’s letter, a little at a time. At the end of each study are focus questions to help you think further about the truths Peter brings. They are open-ended questions to allow for maximum personal reflection and group discussion. “Keeping the Faith When Things Get Tough is an excellent Bible Study on the book of First Peter. Jeff Doles gives us a very practical and easily understood breakdown of this important book. Based on extensive research and his well-rounded biblical perspective, Jeff takes us on an inspiring journey from start to finish. Your faith will be strengthened, and your life will be greatly enriched as you embrace these keys to victorious living out of the pages of God’s word. I highly recommend this book for everyone who loves God’s Word and wants to strengthen his or her faith for miracles in times of need.” ~ Ben R. Peters, Kingdom Sending Center.
