Have a look at the world through the eyes of an artist...viewing it through a prism of art and haiku. Curious and eccentric, this book covers a wide range of subjects from romance to philosophy. It has over 100 haiku and 50 illustrations. It is easy to read with unusual words defined at the bottom of the page. Haiku, is a seventeen syllable Japanese verse form, that began in 17th century Japan. It is a very spontaneous process that distills thoughts and observations down to their essence. You may be inspired to write some of your own. The art in this book is just as spontaneous. Many of the initial sketches were done in coffee houses, then they were finished in the studio. In many cases, the art and haiku have been combined into an illustrated/haiku form. The main purpose of this book is to entertain. So, enjoy. Every time you pick it up, you may find new insights into these poems.

Keep Walking written by Bill Kenney and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-04-15 with categories.

Keep Walking reveals how the little poem has the power to sooth the challenges of the human condition. Much of this book deftly portrays the poignant aspects of aging and illness. Yet Kenney's haiku/senryu also deliver both subtle and aha!-moment revelations and twists, plus some touches of humor. The title poem is an instant classic, portraying a moment where past, present, and future merge in motion. All in all, this collection's emotional impact transcends discussions of form; so if you think you know the difference between haiku and senryu, read keep walking and think again.

For All My Walking written by Santoka Taneda and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-11-12 with Literary Criticism categories.

In April 1926, the Japanese poet Taneda Santoka (1882–1940) set off on the first of many walking trips, journeys in which he tramped thousands of miles through the Japanese countryside. These journeys were part of his religious training as a Buddhist monk as well as literary inspiration for his memorable and often painfully moving poems. The works he wrote during this time comprise a record of his quest for spiritual enlightenment. Although Santoka was master of conventional-style haiku, which he wrote in his youth, the vast majority of his works, and those for which he is most admired, are in free-verse form. He also left a number of diaries in which he frequently recorded the circumstances that had led to the composition of a particular poem or group of poems. In For All My Walking, master translator Burton Watson makes Santoka's life story and literary journeys available to English-speaking readers and students of haiku and Zen Buddhism. He allows us to meet Santoka directly, not by withholding his own opinions but by leaving room for us to form our own. Watson's translations bring across not only the poetry but also the emotional force at the core of the poems. This volume includes 245 of Santoka's poems and of excerpts from his prose diary, along with a chronology of his life and a compelling introduction that provides historical and biographical context to Taneda Santoka's work.

To Walk in Seasons is designed to help the beginner discover haiku for himself, and eventually create his own haiku poems. It includes a lively and sensitive introduction on the nature of haiku. For individual study, or for use in the classroom, it also contains a study guide aimed at recreating the thought processes behind this terse, concentrated form. Mr. Cohen's poetry like his anthology illuminates poetic experience: To walk in seasons is to discover what's inside a split instant To walk in seasons; passing through a dry gate into a rainstorm. To walk in seasons is to wake and find you really are. Mr. Cohen's haiku and other poems have appeared in many well-known literary periodicals such as Literature East and West and American Haiku. He is the author of The Hill Way Home and A House in the Country, and his works have been praised by such eminent poets as Peter Viereck and Mark Van Doren. (He was elected in 1963 to membership in the Poetry Society of America) Mr. Cohen won the title of United States Olympic Poet, representing the United States in Mexico City in 1968, and in 1969 he honored at the World Congress of Poets in Manila.
