Espressione di una personale ricerca di Gropius del concetto di moderno applicato alla quotidianità, le case, con la chiarezza delle loro linee geometriche e la funzionalità ottenuta tramite la semplificazione, esprimono compiutamente i principi fondativi del movimento razionalista tedesco di quegli anni. Abitanti famosi quali Kandinski, Klee, Muche, Feininger applicarono all’interno delle loro abitazioni le proprie teorie artistiche e creative, dando vita ad una diversità di mondi “dietro questi muri di cemento di una bianchezza uniforme”.
