The interrelationship and interaction between space and subject has been an important topic in that it sheds light on how space is shaped by the subject as well as how subject is formed in and through space. This reciprocal relation is one of the topics that is analyzed by the French philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari in their work Capitalism and Schizophrenia. Space, which the subject occupies, is not free from flows of desire and schizophrenia-a term that gains a new meaning in Deleuze and Guattari's writings. This book provides a comparative study of three novels, The Music of Chance by Paul Auster, Martin Dressler by Steven Millhauser and The Museum of Innocence by Orhan Pamuk. These novels present characters who can be called "schizo-nomads" in Deleuze and Guattari's words and they create architectural structures through their flows of desire. A comparative study of these works show that there is a relationship between the schizophrenic subject and postmodern space. This work can be useful to anyone else who has an interest in architecture, literature and who wants to see how the two meet at fictional spaces of Auster, Millhauser and Pamuk."

This book presents a rethink on the significance of Thai Buddhism in an increasingly complex and changing post-modern urban context, especially following the financial crisis of 1997. Defining the cultural nature of Thai 'urbanity'; the implications for local/global flows, interactions and emergent social formations, James Taylor opens up new possibilities in understanding the specificities of everyday urban life as this relates to perceptions, conceptions and lived experiences of religiosity. Changes in the centre are also reverberating in the remaining forests and the monastic tradition of forest-dwelling which has sourced most of the nation's modern saints. The text is based on ethnography taking into account the rich variety of everyday practices in a mélange of the religious. In Thailand, Buddhism is so intimately interconnected with national identity and social, economic and ethno-political concerns as to be inseparable. Taylor argues here that in recent years there has been a marked reformulation of important conventional cosmologies through new and challenging Buddhist ideas and practices. These influences and changes are as much located outside as inside the Buddhist temples/monasteries.

This critical work diversifies Victor Turner's concept of liminality, a basic category of postmodernism, in which distinct categories and hierarchies are questioned and limits erode. Liminality involves an oscillation between cultural institutions, genre conventions, narrative perspectives, and thematic binary oppositions. Grounded on this notion, the text investigates the liminality in Agatha Christie's detective fiction, Neil Gaiman's fantasy stories, and Stanislaw Lem's and Philip K. Dick's science fiction. Through an examination of destabilized norms, this analysis demonstrates that liminality is a key element in the changing trends of fantastic texts.

Günümüzde dünya nüfusunun büyük çoğunluğu doğduğu ülkede yaşamakla birlikte, yaşamlarının bir bölümünü çalışmak, eğitim görmek ve hatta emekliliğini geçirmek için farklı bir ülkeye yerleşenlerin sayısı hızla artmaktadır. Birleşmiş Milletler Uluslararası Göç Verileri’ne göre uluslararası göçmenlerin sayısı 2000 yılından bu yana %49’luk artışla 258 milyona yükselmiştir. Bu durum, üç büyük kıtanın kesişim noktasında yer alan ülkemiz için günümüzde de güncelliğini koruyan ve çözülmesi gereken öncelikli sorunların başında gelmektedir. Göç verileri incelendiğinde ülkemizin tarih boyunca kitlesel göç akımlarının uğrak noktalarından biri olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Göç konusunu sosyal bir kriz olarak ele alan çoğu ülke, resmi kuruluşların yanı sıra üniversite, sivil toplum kuruluşları ve çeşitli örgütlerin öncülüğünde göç, göçmen, iltica ve göç yönetimi, göçle mücadele konusunda eylem planları hazırlamakta, hukuki ve kurumsal düzenlemeler yapmaktadırlar. Bu bağlamda sosyoloji, psikoloji, tarih, antropoloji, iletişim, siyaset bilimi ve ekonomi gibi disiplinler tarafından yürütülen çalışmalara ağırlık verilerek göç, göçler tarihi, göçün özellikleri, türleri, sebep ve sonuçlarına ilişkin kayda değer bir bilgi birikiminin oluşması sağlanmış; ortaya çok sayıda kuram atılmış, çok sayıda eser kaleme alınarak muazzam bir literatür oluşturulmuştur. This collection provides a core introduction to Braidotti's nomadic theory and its innovative formulations, which playfully engage with Deleuze, Foucault, Irigaray, and a host of political and cultural issues. This collection of essays on selected texts in literature, film and the media is driven by a shared theme of contesting the binary thinking in respect of gender and sexuality. The three parts of this book – “contesting norms”, “performing selves” and “blurring the lines” – delineate the queer celebration of difference and deviance. They pinpoint the limitation of assumed norms and subverting them, revel in the fluid and ambiguous self that springs from the contestation of those norms, and then repeatedly transgress and, as a result, obscure the limits that separate the normal from the abnormal. The variety of texts included in the collection ranges from a discussion of queer subjects represented in film, television and literature to that of the representations of other non-normative figures (including a madwoman, a freak or a prostitute) and to gender-role contestation and gender-bending practicing evidenced in the press, theatre, film, literature and popular culture.
