The Berlin Baghdad Railway As A Cause Of World War I written by Arthur P. Maloney and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1984 with Germany categories.

The Baghdad Railway was a project grand in conception and sweeping in scope. At first a modest effort in north-eastern Anatolia, it soon captured the enthusiasm of important men in German and Austrian financial, industrial, and political circles. This growing interest of Germany, by a sort of political third law of motion, engendered an equal and opposite reaction in Russia, France, and England. In this paper I trace the history of the Baghdad Railway from its conception in 1888 to the beginning of World War I.I will show how important the Railway was in the political, economic, and diplomatic events which led up to the First World War.

The Berlin Baghdad Express written by Sean McMeekin and has been published by Penguin UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-06-24 with History categories.

'Sean McMeekin has written a classic of First World War history ... This superb and original book is the reality behind Greenmantle' Norman Stone The Berlin-Baghdad Express explores one of the big, previously unresearched subjects of the First World War: the German bid for world power - and the destruction of the British Empire - through the harnessing of the Ottoman Empire. McMeekin's book shows how incredibly high the stakes were in the Middle East - with the Germans in the tantalizing position of taking over the core of the British Empire via the extraordinary railway that would link Central Europe and the Persian Gulf. Germany sought the Ottoman Empire as an ally to create jihad against the British - whose Empire at the time was the largest Islamic power in the world. The Berlin-Baghdad Express is a fascinating account of western interference in the Middle East and its lamentable results. It explains and brings to life a massive area of fighting, which in most other accounts is restricted to the disaster at Gallipoli and the British invasions of Iraq and Palestine.

Volume three of this authoritative Churchill biography chronicles his years of triumphant leadership in the Admiralty during World War I. Acclaimed British historian Sir Martin Gilbert continues the official biography of Sir Winston S. Churchill the eventful period between 1914 and 1916, with a full account of his achievements as first lord of the Admiralty during the Great War. These include Churchill’s efforts to prolong the siege of Antwerp, his support for the use of air power, and his part in the early development of the tank. It shows the forcefulness with which he argued for an offensive naval policy, first against Germany, then against Turkey. Gilbert examines the political crisis of May 1915, during which the Conservative Party forced Asquith to form a coalition government. The Conservatives insisted that Churchill leave the center of war policymaking for a position of increasing political isolation. In the next seven months, while the Gallipoli campaign was being fought, Churchill served as chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, with no authority over military or naval policy. Resigning from the cabinet in November 1915, Churchill was appointed lieutenant-colonel, commanding an infantry battalion in the trenches of the Western Front. In May 1916, he returned from the trenches, hoping to reenter political life, but his repeated attempts to regain his once-substantial influence were unsuccessful. “A milestone, a monument, a magisterial achievement . . . rightly regarded as the most comprehensive life ever written of any age.” —Andrew Roberts, historian and author of The Storm of War “The most scholarly study of Churchill in war and peace ever written.” —Herbert Mitgang, The New York Times

From Berlin To Bagdad written by George Abel Schreiner and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1918 with World War, 1914-1918 categories.

Associated Press journalist Schreiner recorded his personal impressions and conversations with important political and social figures in the Ottoman Empire in the aftermath of World War I, after covering the war from Constantinople. He was a witness to part of the Armenian massacre and thus provides firsthand information about that event, including at least one description of a large column of Armenian citizens on a forced march. He describes the personalities and opinions of such figures as Minister of the Interior Talaat Pasha, Minister of War Enver Pasha, and orator, reformer and feminist Hadileh Edib Hannym Effendi. Schreiner rides the Berlin-Baghdad railroad, devotes much space to discussing women in Turkey (much of the discussion comes from his conversation with Hadileh Edib Hannym), records opinions of WWI by minority Greeks and Armenians within the Ottoman Empire, and describes Germany's political presence in the nation.
